Ruben Rabasa (Cuba, April 13, 1938) is a Cuban actor and comedian. In the field of dubbing his most important role was the title character of the series Duckman. In the film world is recognized for his performance in “Challenge the Devil” (1988) and “Jack and Jill” (2011). He is currently retired from dubbing.
Ruben was born in Havana, Cuba on 13 April 1938. In 1955 he emigrated to the United States of America and lived 20 years in New York City.
He began his career with a group called “Añorada Cuba” directed by Stephen Alvarez. This group went to Ruben toward the arts in its infancy in singing and dancing which made for several years in parades by the famous Fifth Avenue in New York representing all Cuban exiles especially. In that same period I took acting classes with the director, actor and teacher Miguel Ponce, dancing with Margarita balerina premium Parla and singing lessons at the Academy of Carnegie Hall. On weekends Ruben was going to dance to the most important ballrooms of New York City.
In the “Theatre of the Americas in New York” Ruben work as an actor in many plays in addition to becoming an executive of the company founded by Miguel Ponce and Orestes Matacena. Years later, Ruben and Orestes Matacena join the founder of the “Cuban Cultural Center of New York”, Ivan Acosta and create cultural institution. In the division of theater, Ruben, participates as an actor in very many plays.
In early February 1977 Ruben fly to the Dominican Republic to star in his first entitulada movie “Worms” which characterizes a command that enters Cuba to rescue a political prisoner. Ruben returned to the Dominican Republic in 1978 entitulada filming his second movie “Guaguasi”, where the role of priest ago. When he returned to New York, Ruben entituladas working on two more films “Bla-Bla-Bla” with Guillermo Alvarez-Guedez and “3-K-3” with the legend of the Cuban radio and television, Leopoldo Fernandez, Three Skates .
In 1980 Ruben decides to move to Miami, Florida and began working in the American theater as well as in commercials for television and radio while still making plays. This is the period when he met the great stylist and hairdresser, Gilberto Febles which you disñado all wigs to date. Rubén Rabasa (Cuba,13 de abril de 1938-) es un actor y comediante cubano. En el ámbito del doblaje su rol más importante fue el personaje protagonista de la serie Duckman. En el mundo del cine es reconocido por su actuación en “Reto al Diablo” (1988) y “Jack y Jill” (2011). Actualmente se encuentra retirado del doblaje.
Ruben nació en La Habana, Cuba el 13 de Abril de 1938. En el 1955 emigró a Los Estados Unidos de America y vivió 20 años en la ciudad de Nueva York.
Comenzó su carrera artística con el grupo llamado “Añorada Cuba” dirigido por Esteban Alvarez. Este grupo en camino a Ruben hacia las artes dando sus primeros pasos en canto y baile lo cual hizo por varios años en los desfiles por la famosa Quinta Avenida de Nueva York representando a todos los Cubanos especialmente los exilados. En ese mismo periodo tomó clases de actuación con el director, actor y maestro Miguel Ponce, baile con la prima balerina Margarita Parla y clases de canto en la academia del Carnegie Hall. En los fines de semanas Ruben se iba a bailar a los ballrooms mas importantes de la ciudad de Nueva York.
En el “Teatro de las Americas de New York” Rubén trabajó como actor en innumerables obras teatrales además de convertirse en uno de los ejecutivos de la compañía fundada por Miguel Ponce y Orestes Matacena. Años después, Ruben y Orestes Matacena se unen al fundador del “Centro Cultural Cubano de Nueva York”, Ivan Acosta y crean la institución cultural. En la division de teatro, Ruben, participa como actor en muchísimas obras teatrales.
A principio de Febrero de 1977 Rubén vuela a la República Dominicana para protagonizar en su primera pelicula entitulada “Los Gusanos” donde caracteriza a un comando que entra en Cuba a rescatar a un preso politico. Ruben regresa a la República Dominicana en 1978 a filmar su segunda pelicula entitulada”Guaguasi”, donde hace el papel de cura. Cuando regresa a Nueva York, Rubén trabaja en dos películas mas intituladas “Bla-Bla-Bla” con Guillermo Alvarez-Guedez y en “3-K-3” junto a la leyenda de la radio y televisión Cubana, Leopoldo Fernandez, Tres Patines.
En 1980 Ruben decide mudarse para Miami, Florida y comienza a trabajar en el cine Americano asi como en comerciales para la television y la radio mientras sigue haciendo obras de teatro. Este es el periodo cuando conoce al gran estilista y peluquero, Gilberto Febles el cual le a diseñado todas sus pelucas hasta el momento actual. El productor, director y escritor, Orestes Matacena le ofrece una parte en una pelicula Americana que esta filmando en Carolina del Norte. A Ruben le gusta el personaje y se va para Hendersonville a rodar ‘Tainted”. Despues de filmar la pelicula “Tainted”, Ruben comienza a trabajar en películas Americanas a través de toda su estancia en Miami. “Corte Tropical” es la primera comedia de Ruben en la television con un exito jamas igualado en el ámbito hispano en Los Estados Unidos de America.
Don Francisco lo trae a su famoso show “Sabado Gigante” donde Ruben trabaja durante ocho años. En sus últimos tres años vuela continuamente a Chile para rodar unas viñetas que se añaden al show. Cuando graba el papel principal del famoso carton “Duckman” y filma “Taina” para Nickelodeon mientras participaba en un programa radial en Radio Unica, Ruben decide una vez mas coger las maletas y mudarse para Hollywood donde ahora reside. Ya establecido en California, Ruben decide ampliar su carrera artística escribiendo su primer guión cinematográfico titulado “Windmills of Manhattan” (Molinos de Manhattan) basado en todas sus delirantes anecdotas.
Enseguida que acaba de escribir su primer guión cinematográfico, Ruben nuevamente se junta con el cineasta Orestes Matacena para filmar una colección de sus chistes en Las Vegas, Hollywood, Beverly Hills y hasta en el famoso trasatlántico Queen Mary en Long Beach a la vez que nos sorprende con un recorrido crudo y sincero a lo largo de toda su vida.
Ruben Rabasa es un eterno estudiante. En estos momentos después de acabar de filmar tres películas, una de ellas bajo la dirección de Andy Garcia, está tomando clases de actuación con tres diferentes maestros y esta tomando clases de pronunciacion en ingles.
