Developers and users of Android in Cuba are overjoyed. The Google store recently include residents in the island between those who can download extensions, themes and applications for free. The US company has made public the news a few days after that Barack Obama issued a presidential directive to make “irreversible” opening to Cuba.
Several representatives of the technology giant, including its Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt, visited Cuba to “promote the virtues of a free and open Internet” in June 2014. During their trip they met with Youth polytechnics and performed a guided visit to the University of Informatics Sciences (UCI). They also approached the drafting of 14ymedio to chat with journalists.
Few weeks later allowed Islanders users install the Chrome browser and is also authorized them to Play Store access to obtain applications and free games. Cuban users could also begin using the free part of the Google Analytics audience measurement tool.
During the visit of the U.S. President to the island in March, Obama made clear that Google was looking for “start to establish more wireless and broadband” in the country.
Recently the application Google Flights began providing information on flights bound for the island, something that benefits Americans travel to Cuba, at a time when direct commercial flights between the two countries are restored. The tool helps the traveler to know rates and availability of tickets for round-trip or with connections to and from Cuba.
During the visit of the U.S. President to the island in March, Obama made clear that Google was looking for “start to establish more wireless and broadband” in the country. Something which he described as “necessary for Cuba among the economically in the 21ST century” and that Cubans will have “more voice”.
After the historic trip of the President of USA, Google teamed up with the organic Museum of Romerillo directed by artist Kcho in an initiative that allows you to “browse the web and find information to those people for whom Internet access is scarce”. An initiative that has received applause and criticism, due to the low speed and the limitations in connection to the great world wide Web.

GOOGLE AMPLÍA SUS SERVICIOS A LOS CUBANOS EN LA ISLA.
Los desarrolladores y usuarios de Android en Cuba están de plácemes. La tienda de Google acaba de incluir a los residentes en la Isla entre quienes pueden descargar extensiones, temas y aplicaciones de manera gratuita. La compañía estadounidense ha hecho pública la noticia a pocos días de que Barack Obama emitiera una directiva presidencial para hacer “irreversible” la apertura a Cuba.
En junio de 2014 varios representantes del gigante de las tecnologías, incluyendo a su presidente ejecutivo Eric Schmidt, visitaron Cuba para “promover las virtudes de una Internet libre y abierta”. Durante su viaje se reunieron con jóvenes de escuelas politécnicas y realizaron una visita guiada a la Universidad de Ciencias Informáticas (UCI). También se acercaron a la redacción de 14ymedio para charlar con sus periodistas.
Pocas semanas después se permitió que los internautas isleños instalaran el navegador Chrome y se les autorizó también al acceso a Play Store para obtener aplicaciones y juegos gratis. Los usuarios cubanos también pudieron comenzar a usar la parte gratuita de la herramienta de medición de audiencias Google Analytics.

Recientemente la aplicación Flights de Google comenzó a proveer información sobre vuelos con destino a la Isla, algo que beneficia los viajes de los estadounidenses a Cuba, en un momento en que se restablecen los vuelos comerciales directos entre ambos países. La herramienta ayuda al viajero a conocer las tarifas y disponibilidad de boletos de ida y vuelta o con conexiones hacia y desde Cuba.

Una iniciativa que ha recibido aplausos y críticas, debido a la baja velocidad y las limitaciones en la conexión a la gran telaraña mundial.
