The Russian Government is studying reopen military bases in Cuba and Viet Nam, old allies during the Soviet Union, thus extending its military presence in the world and deepening the confrontation with Western powers, old-style cold war from the middle of the last century.

RUSIA HACE PLANES PARA ABRIR UNA BASE MILITAR EN CUBA.
El gobierno ruso estudia reabrir sus bases militares en Cuba y Vietnam, antiguos aliados durante la Unión Soviética, ampliando así su presencia militar en el mundo y profundizando la confrontación con las potencias occidentales, al viejo estilo de la Guerra Fría de mediados del siglo pasado.
A esto se suma otra maniobra de Moscú que causó preocupación en Estados Unidos y en Europa. Lituania denunció ayer “ejercicios militares” del ejército ruso en el enclave occidental de Kaliningrado, cerca de la frontera común, “que incluyen el despliegue de misiles Iskander”. Moscú confirmó esos ejercicios y explicó que se trataba de entrenamientos regulares como los que tienen lugar en todo el territorio.
Este nuevo episodio, de rearmar las bases en Cuba y Vietnam, implican un fuerte desafío a Washington y a los integrantes de la OTAN. Fue el secretario de Estado y viceministro de Defensa, Nikolai Pankov, quien lanzó el tema en la Cámara Baja del parlamento ruso. “Estamos comprometidos en este trabajo, estamos trabajando en ellos”, dijo ante la Duma.
La intención de recuperar sus bases navales en esos dos países ya fue anunciada por Rusia hace cuatro años, cuando La Habana y Moscú volvieron a la senda de la cooperación, algo que se había interrumpido desde la caída de la Unión Soviética.

Dentro de esta carrera armamentística hay que tener en cuenta que Rusia está completando la formación de un escuadrón de aviones bombarderos pesados para sobrevolar el Océano Pacífico, en el triángulo Hawai-Guam-Japón, donde se registran gran actividad de aeronaves estadounidenses.
Esto lo informó ayer el periódico ruso Izvestia, citando una fuente anónima del Ministerio de Defensa de ese país. Según los datos recogidos por el diario, la nueva formación estará integrada por bombarderos estratégicos lanza misiles TU-95MS y bombarderos estratégicos TU-22M3. Las bases de operaciones de estos poderosos aviones estarán en Belaia y Ukrainka, en Siberia oriental.
