The Cuban Government will finance half of the spending on construction material to those people whose homes have suffered damage after the hurricane Matthew by the eastern end of the island last Tuesday, which was especially fierce in the municipalities of Baracoa and Maisí Imias.
The decision was taken at a meeting held today in Baracoa, headed by President Raúl Castro, who traveled to the hardest-hit area to closely coordinate the work of reconstruction and restoration of basic services for the population, Cuban State television reported today.

El Gobierno cubano financiará la mitad del gasto en material de construcción a aquellas personas cuyas viviendas hayan sufrido desperfectos tras el paso del huracán Matthew por el extremo oriental de la isla el pasado martes, que fue especialmente feroz en los municipios de Baracoa, Maisí e Imías.

La decisión fue adoptada en una reunión que se celebró hoy en Baracoa, encabezada por el presidente Raúl Castro, quien se desplazó hasta la zona más afectada para coordinar de cerca las labores de reconstrucción y de restablecimiento de los servicios básicos para la población, informó hoy la televisión estatal cubana.
A la reunión asistieron representantes del gobierno municipal y regional de Guantánamo, además de los ministros de Transporte, Adel Yzquierdo; Turismo, Manuel Marrero, de Energía y Minas, Alfredo López, o el viceministro de Defensa, el general Ramón Espinosa.
Allí se aprobó la resolución para financiar con los presupuestos del Estado el 50 por ciento del gasto en material de construcción para las viviendas que presenten destrucción total o parcial, una decisión que ya se adoptó en la isla tras el paso del huracán Sandy por Santiago de Cuba hace cuatro años.
Los consejos de defensa municipales serán los encargados de “determinar la magnitud de los daños en cada vivienda y aprobar los recursos a asignar para solucionar las afectaciones”, según la declaración del Gobierno cubano.

En la reunión en Baracoa, donde casi todas las viviendas quedaron dañadas por el paso de Matthew con fuerza 4, Raúl Castro informó de que el Gobierno de Venezuela va a realizar un “envío solidario” con equipos de construcción, laminas de acero y otros materiales.
El Gobierno cubano ha desplazado hasta la zona afectada equipos técnicos de trabajadores de otros puntos del país para restablecer servicios básicos como la electricidad y la telefonía.
También se han enviado a los lugares más perjudicados, brigadas del Ejército que ayudan principalmente en tareas como despejar carreteras bloqueadas y limpiar escombros de las calles.
