The creation of a lottery in Cuba was approved by Royal order of the 28 of June of 1810, to title of essay; a royal order later, of date 27 of January of 1812, was the home. LA LOTERÍA NACIONAL: HISTORIA DE OTRO DE LOS ‘VICIOS’ CUBANOS.
La creación de una lotería en Cuba fue aprobada por Real Orden del 28 de junio de 1810, a titulo de ensayo; una Real Orden posterior, de fecha 27 de enero de 1812, apremiaba el inicio. El primer sorteo en Cuba de la REAL LOTERIA DE LA FIEL ISLA DE CUBA se efectuó el 11 de septiembre de ese propio año, con dos premios mayores de diez mil y cinco mil pesos; los números premiados fueron e1 3406 y e1 3380, ambos vendidos en Santiago de Cuba.
Posteriormente, la lotería, que se había inspirado en la de México, continuó desarrollándose sobre la base de la Ordenanza de la Real Lotería de España, adecuándola a las condiciones de Cuba. Desde esa fecha la REAL LOTERIA DE LA ISLA DE CUBA cambia el nombre por el de LOTERIA NACIONAL, el cual llevó por poco tiempo, ya que en 1815 vuelve a tomar el nombre original basta el 30 de noviembre de 1898 cuando se realiza el último sorteo de la Lotería Colonial.

Después de varios años de haberse extinguido, se restablece en 1903, cuando algunos senadores elaboran un proyecto sobre este juego de azar, el cual fue llevado a la cámara y al senado para el análisis y aprobación. Prestigiosas voces se pronunciaron en contra de este proyecto de ley que hacía resucitar este “vicio del pasado colonial”. Después de un largo debate, el proyecto de ley fue aprobado par la cámara y el senado el 5 de enero de 1905, con 25 votos a favor y 12 en contra.
En 1959 fue convertida en un programa de beneficio popular., pero de nuevo se retomó lo de “vicio del pasado”, ahora capitalista, y el último sorteo se realizó el sábado 16 de marzo de 1968.

La Lotería en Cuba ó como también se le conoce “La Bolita”; tiene en La charada su referencia a la hora de apostar, ya que es como tradición cubana relacionar el número que supuestamente vas a jugar a la lotería, con un significado. La charada es una tabla compuesta de 100 número consecutivos del 1 al 100. Los primeros 36 número están tomados de la llamada charada china o chiffá, los restantes son producto de la imaginación popular del cubano. En Cuba suelen preguntar: ¿Qué soñaste anoche?. Entonces se relacionaba los sueños con los números de la charada y esto sirve de referencia para jugar a la lotería o la “bolita”.
Actualmente la Lotería en Cuba es ilegal, pero no ha dejado de jugarse, porque es el pueblo cubano muy jugador. Muchos piensan que la lotería cubana también es una tradición popular, porque en la Isla, a pesar de ser ilegal, muchos conocen el significado de los números de la charada. ¿Quién no sabe que el 8 es muerto, el 15 niña bonita, el 33, el 47,…? ¿Y el 1? ¡!
He “oído” decir que por Miramar y otros barrios por donde se mueven los fulas, la divisa, han hecho bancos que recogen y pagan en dólares…
