CUBA: NATIONAL BANK OF BRAZIL FORCES SUSPENSION OF WORKS OF “ODEBRECHT COMPANY” IN MARIEL.
The “Lava Jato” operation, which investigates more than two years, the largest in the history of Brazil corruption plot, has forced to suspend planned infrastructure projects in six countries in Latin America, including one developed in the special area of development of the Mariel, EFE reported.
The Spanish Agency cited a report released Sunday by the Group of newspapers America (GDA), according to which, as a result of the complaints against the companies involved in the corrupt network, between which are the principal builders of the country, the National Bank of economic and Social Development (BNDES) suspended the financing of 3,600 million dollars for 16 works in the region.
These infrastructure projects were going to be in Argentina, Venezuela, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Guatemala and Honduras, according to the investigations of the GDA, composed of eleven of the most relevant newspapers in the region.
The works in question were in the hands of builders Odebrecht, Andrade Gutierrez, Camargo Correa, Queiroz Galvão and OAS, the five investigated by the “Lava Jato” (car wash) for his involvement in a macro scheme of paying bribes to politicians in Exchange for obtaining contracts and other favors.
In the case of Cuba, Odebrecht had the project forward. The company won the contract for part of the works of the special zone development (ZEDM) which builds the Cuban Government in Mariel, for which the BNDES gave financing of more than $ 800 million.
Venezuela is the country most affected, as they will have to renegotiate five projects, which include the expansion of the metro de Caracas, whose works received 1,280 million from BNDES, and Astialba dockyard, target to build tankers for the State-run Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA).
However, BNDES, already announced on 11 October the suspension of payments on loans to the construction companies investigated for corruption and reserved the right to cancel the contract unilaterally if irregularities were found.

After more than two years of research, ‘Lava Jato’ stopped dozens of people, mostly executives of construction companies, as well as executives from Petrobras, the State oil company, axis of the plot, and several politicians.
In the course of the operation, has uncovered the network of corruption at Petrobras, which revealed countless financial problems related to diversion of funds, in addition to cause a political earthquake that has sprinkled with figures of Governments of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Dilma Rousseff and Michel fear.
About money allegedly diverted, prosecutors estimated the total amount between 2004 and 2012 to 8,000 million, in the biggest scandal of corruption in the Brazilian democracy.

BANCO NACIONAL DE BRASIL OBLIGA SUSPENDER LAS OBRAS DE LA “EMPRESA ODEBRECHT” EN EL MARIEL.
La operación “Lava Jato”, que investiga desde hace más de dos años la trama de corrupción más grande de la historia de Brasil, ha obligado a suspender proyectos de infraestructura previstos en seis países de Latinoamérica, entre ellos uno desarrollado en la Zona Especial de Desarrollo del Mariel, reportó EFE.
La agencia española cita un informe divulgado este domingo por el Grupo de Diarios América (GDA), según el cual, a raíz de las denuncias contra las empresas implicadas en la red corrupta, entre las que se encuentran las principales constructoras del país, el Banco Nacional de Desarrollo Económico y Social (BNDES) suspendió la financiación de 3.600 millones de dólares para 16 obras en la región.
Esos proyectos de infraestructura se iban a realizar en Argentina, Venezuela, Cuba, República Dominicana, Guatemala y Honduras, de acuerdo a las investigaciones del GDA, compuesto por once de los diarios más relevantes de la región.
Las obras en cuestión estaban en manos de las constructoras Odebrecht, Andrade Gutiérrez, Camargo Corrêa, Queiroz Galvão y OAS, las cinco investigadas por la “Lava Jato” (lavadero de autos) por su implicación en un macro esquema de pago de sobornos a políticos a cambio de la obtención de contratos y otros favores.
En el caso particular de Cuba, el proyecto lo llevaba adelante Odebrecht. Esta empresa obtuvo el contrato para parte de las obras de la Zona Especial de Desarrollo (ZEDM) que construye el Gobierno cubano en Mariel, para las que el BNDES concedió una financiación de más de 800 millones de dólares.
Venezuela es el país más afectado, pues se tendrán que renegociar cinco proyectos, entre los que se encuentran la expansión del metro de Caracas, cuyas obras recibieron 1.280 millones de dólares del BNDES, y del astillero Astialba, destino a fabricar barcos petroleros para la estatal Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA).
No obstante, el BNDES, ya anunció el pasado 11 de octubre la suspensión del pago de cuotas de préstamos concedidos a las constructoras investigadas por corrupción y se reservó el derecho de cancelar los contratos unilateralmente si se hallaban irregularidades.

Tras más de dos años de investigación, la ‘Lava Jato’ ha detenido a decenas de personas, en su mayoría altos ejecutivos de empresas constructoras, así como directivos de Petrobras, la petrolera estatal eje de la trama, y varios políticos.
En el transcurso de la operación, se destapó la red de corrupción en Petrobras que reveló innumerables problemas financieros relacionados con desvío de fondos, además de provocar un terremoto político, que ha salpicado a figuras cercanas de los Gobiernos de Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Dilma Rousseff y Michel Temer.
Sobre el dinero presuntamente desviado, la Fiscalía calcula que la cantidad total entre 2004 y 2012 asciende a 8.000 millones de dólares, en el mayor escándalo de corrupción de la democracia brasileña.
