Cubans are lucky people. We can count in the country with about 332 days of sun to the year. Thing that the Cuban takes great advantage to enjoy the delights of its beaches and more when they approach those days in which it increases the heat and to be as we said us … suddenly in the summer.
For the average Cuban, the beach is the maximum fun, the greatest distraction, the best of stimuli, the ideal place to win or waste time. Paradise and adventure. A Sunday at the beach, gratifies, compensates for the effort of the previous days, although in the end it will end more tired than the day before. If the stay is a week or more, the joy overflows the limits and invades the whole family. A vacation on the beach confirms as few things the gregarious character of the Cuban. Relatives near and far, friends, friends of friends, neighbors and acquaintances … everyone invites you to enjoy too. Then there will be juggling because the reservation included lodging and food for four people and not for the 16 who accepted the treat and ended up queuing in front of the urinal.
There are different types of beach wear. The one who believes himself to be the best, sets himself up for impossible goals, invites everyone to meet in his wake and awakens from his Olympic dream with the word of mouth given by the lifeguard who rescued him. And the one that is lost in the contemplation of a landscape that includes the girls that wander in the sand with their minimal thongs and adhered to the generous anatomy. Who, according to the times, wants to take care of the sun so much that it would have been better for him to stay at home. And the one who takes it for him alone and ends with second degree burns in the back that force him to seek medical care and fill him with worries and discomfort in the days after. There are people who blush in the sun when they go to the beach. It is the way you have to show others where you spent your holiday.
Although recreational offers multiply here during the summer months, none surpasses that of the beach. It was not always so. In the distant past, the most opulent families passed it outside of Havana, either in the countryside or on the outskirts, and took advantage of the proximity of the rivers to seek solace and relaxation, until little by little the so-called ” “bathrooms”; Artificial beaches that the construction and the successive extensions of the Malecón habanero would end up swallowing in century XX. Still in 1930 Varadero was a desert and almost unknown place, the beaches of Marianao began to explode in the decade of the 20 and it was not until after 1944 when the Beaches of the East of Havana counted on an easy and fast access. CUBA, LLEGA EL MES DE ABRIL Y ASÍ DE REPENTE EN EL VERANO.
Los cubanos son personas con una gran suerte. Podemos contar en el país con unos 332 días de sol al año. Cosa que el cubano aprovecha en gran forma para disfrutar las delicias de sus playas y mas cuando se acercan esos días en que aumenta el calor y estar como dijéramos nosotros.. de repente en el verano.
Para el cubano promedio, la playa es la diversión máxima, la mayor distracción, el mejor de los estímulos, el sitio ideal para ganar o perder el tiempo. El paraíso y la aventura. Un domingo en la playa, gratifica, compensa del esfuerzo de los días precedentes, aunque a la postre se termine más cansado que la víspera. Si la estancia es de una semana o más, la alegría desborda los límites e invade a toda la familia. Unas vacaciones en la playa confirman como pocas cosas el carácter gregario del cubano. Parientes cercanos y lejanos, amigos, amigos de amigos, vecinos y conocidos… a todos invita para que también disfruten. Luego habrá que hacer malabares porque la reservación incluía hospedaje y comida para cuatro personas y no para las 16 que aceptaron el convite y terminaron haciendo fila delante del urinario.
Hay diversos tipos de playeros. El que creyéndose el mejor se traza metas imposibles, invita a competir a cuantos encuentra a su paso y despierta de su sueño olímpico con el boca a boca que le da el salvavidas que lo rescató. Y el que se pierde en la contemplación de un paisaje que incluye a las muchachas que deambulan por la arena con sus tangas mínimas y adheridas a la generosa anatomía. El que, acorde con los tiempos, quiere cuidarse tanto del sol que más le hubiera valido quedarse en casa. Y el que se lo coge para él solo y termina con quemaduras de segundo grado en la espalda que lo obligan a buscar asistencia médica y lo colman de preocupaciones y molestias en los días subsiguientes. Hay gente que se achicharra al sol cuando va a la playa. Es la forma que tiene de demostrarle a los demás donde pasó su asueto.
Pese a que las ofertas recreativas se multiplican aquí durante los meses de verano, ninguna supera a la de la playa. No siempre fue así. En el lejano ayer, las familias más opulentas lo pasaban fuera de La Habana, bien en el campo o en la periferia y aprovechaban la cercanía de los ríos para procurarse ratos de solaz y esparcimiento, hasta que poco a poco surgieron en la costa los llamados “baños”; playas artificiales que la construcción y las sucesivas ampliaciones del Malecón habanero terminarían tragándose en el siglo XX. Todavía en 1930 Varadero era un paraje desierto y casi desconocido, las playas de Marianao comenzaron a explotarse en la década del 20 y no fue hasta después de 1944 cuando las Playas del Este de La Habana contaron con un acceso fácil y rápido. Entre esos años el cubano se quitó la chaqueta, desanudó la corbata y soltó el sombrero para portar la cubanísima guayabera y quedar, a la larga, en mangas de camisa a secas.
Hoy los más jóvenes vuelven a privilegiar los baños en la costa y, con el pretexto del calor, el vestuario y las costumbres siguen simplificándose con olvido de que el clima siempre ha sido en Cuba más o menos el mismo. A partir de 1771 los habaneros dispusieron del hielo, traído desde Veracruz y Boston, para mitigarlo, si bien comenzó a importarse con fines medicinales. Los arquitectos coloniales aprendieron a sacarle el mayor partido posible a las brisas. Se vivía de cara a la calle, con las ventanas abiertas y las familias se reunían y recibían en el lugar más fresco de la casa. Quedaba aún el recurso del abanico que, con sus revoloteos y cierres, trasmitía un lenguaje de coquetería en que fueron expertas las cubanas.
Las aguas del mar regalan en Cuba una temperatura promedio anual de 25ºC. Por eso se dice y se repite que es posible disfrutar de sus playas durante todo el año. No es un mero slogan publicitario. Es una verdad y la gran suerte de los cubanos.
