Frédérique Bredin, president of the National Center for Cinematography (CNC) in France, reported in Havana that her country and Cuba will sign a film co-production agreement that will allow filmmakers from both nations to finalize projects and take them further, With the help of the parties involved in the agreement.
Since the beginning of the last convention, work has also been done on the restoration of film works, with the vision of showing the world an alternative cinema to that of Hollywood, showing the cultural diversity and traditions of both countries. The current co-production project includes the restoration of old films of cultural interest to both parties, such as ‘El otro Cristóbal’, directed by French writer and filmmaker Armand Gatti in 1963.
The other Cristobal was, according to the press of the time, an avant-garde and symbolic delirium, which showed the libertarian deeds of the Cuban people but eluded all concrete references in chronological, geographical or biographical terms, to cover Afro-Cuban myths and icons of Slavery and colonialism in the Caribbean. Anyway, it is good to note that El otro Cristóbal could regain cult status, like its contemporary, the Cuban-Soviet co-production Soy Cuba, reviled in its time, and then cataloged as a very important film.

In the other Cristóbal intervened the Cuban actors Bertina Acevedo, Alden Knight, Jose Antonio Rodriguez, Agustín Fields, Carlos Ruis de la Tejera and Eslinda Núñez. Thanks to the French co-production, the film marked the debut of the Cuban presence at the 1964 Cannes Film Festival.
For the purposes of the co-production agreement, mentioned above, a third is added: image education, since the two countries agree on the importance of the formation of values in the young people, reason why it has decided to create a pedagogical guide that Facilitate the education of children and young people in Cuba and France.
As part of this agreement the most famous film school in France, FEMIS, will exchange students with the International School of Cinema and TV (EICTV), San Antonio de los Baños, and also with the Art Faculty of Audiovisual Media (FAMCA).

Frédérique Bredin, presidenta del Centro Nacional de la Cinematografía (CNC) en Francia, informó en La Habana, que su país y Cuba firmarán un acuerdo de coproducción cinematográfica que permitirá, a los cineastas de ambas naciones, concretar proyectos, y llevarlos más lejos, con la ayuda de las partes implicadas en el convenio.
Desde el inicio del pasado convenio se trabaja también en la restauración de obras fílmicas, con la visión de mostrarle al mundo un cine alternativo al de Hollywood, que muestre la diversidad cultural y las tradiciones de ambos países. El actual proyecto de coproducción incluye la restauración de filmes antiguos, de interés cultural para ambas partes, como ‘El otro Cristóbal’, dirigida por el escritor y cineasta galo Armand Gatti en 1963.
El otro Cristóbal era, según la prensa de la época, un delirio vanguardista y simbólico, que mostraba la gesta libertaria del pueblo cubano pero elude todo referente concreto en términos cronológicos, geográficos o biográficos, para ampararse en mitos afrocubanos y en los iconos de la esclavitud y el colonialismo en el Caribe. De todos modos, es bueno advertir que El otro Cristóbal pudiera recuperar estatus de culto, al igual que su contemporánea, la coproducción soviético-cubana Soy Cuba, denostada en su época, y luego catalogada como película importantísima.

En El otro Cristóbal intervinieron los actores cubanos Bertina Acevedo, Alden Knight, José Antonio Rodríguez, Agustín Campos, Carlos Ruis de la Tejera y Eslinda Núñez . Gracias la coproducción francesa, el filme marcó el debut de la presencia cubana en el festival de Cannes de 1964.
A los propósitos del convenio de coproducción, antes expresados, se suma un tercero: la educación de la imagen, pues los dos países concuerdan en la importancia de la formación de valores en los jóvenes, por lo que se ha decidido crear una guía pedagógica que facilite la educación de niños y jóvenes de Cuba y Francia.
Como parte de tal convenio la más famosa escuela de cine en Francia, la FEMIS, intercambiará estudiantes con la Escuela Internacional de Cine y TV (EICTV), de San Antonio de los Baños, y también con la Facultad Arte de los Medios de Comunicación Audiovisuales (FAMCA).
