AMELIA GOYRI “THE MIRACLE ONE” (La Milagrosa) REAL TRUE LIFE HISTORY.
The most popular and undoubtedly the most visited tomb in the Cemetery of Columbus, is that of Amelia Goyri de la Hoz, La Milagrosa.
The young Amelia Goyri de la Hoz was in love with José Vicente Adot Rabell, who corresponded to her love, but due to the boy’s inferior social position, his parents were strongly opposed to this relationship.
At the death of her father, the girl marries the man she loved and a year comes pregnant, but in childbirth serious complications occur and the child and the mother who was barely 23 years old die.
This happened on May 3, 1901, on the occasion of the Day of the Holy Cross, and the body was buried in a modest vault of the Colon Cemetery, with the girl who was born lifeless at her feet, according to custom.
It is said that his sad husband visited the place two and three times a day, touching the marble with one of the rings to wake his wife, an action he did for 40 years until he left the world of the living.
The bitter love story comes to the ears of the famous Cuban artist José Vilalta Saavedra, author of the monuments to José Martí in Central Park, the Eight Medical Students and Francisco Albear, among other works.
He offered to create a statue for the deceased and as it was at that time in Italy he requested a photo of Amalia and began the work of sculpting it in Carrara marble and brought it to Cuba personally in 1909.
They say that the day that the sculpture was placed in the tomb, the deceased reincarnated in that figure and from that moment Jose Vicente, I incorporate a new ritual, when it left it retired slowly without turning its back.
Today the tomb never lacks flowers and daily thousands of people flock to it
In 1914 when Amelia had been dead for 13 years, the father of her poor husband died and it was decided to bury him in the same vault and then an unusual and perhaps unforeseen event occurs, which to date is a true enigma.
Jose Vicente asks to be present in the exhumation to see the love of his life for the last time and with amazement discover all the present that the two bodies were intact and that Amelia clasped the girl in his arms.
From that moment Amelia became “La Milagrosa” and thus the protector of future mothers and children, achieving international relief and her tomb is a sacred place, revered and highly respected by believers and profane.
José Vicente Adot Rabell, ceased to exist in 1941 and according to his wishes was buried next to his beloved, however the famous ring of the vault lid that I touch for four decades disappeared mysteriously, but still the other three remain.
In this place the faithful leave baby clothes, bottles, toys and even money, carried with extreme humility, by a person regularly to the congregation of Santa Teresa, in the Vedado, where they are destined for charitable ends.

La tumba más popular y sin duda la más visitada en el Cementerio de Colón, es la de Amelia Goyri de la Hoz, La Milagrosa.
La joven Amelia Goyri de la Hoz, estaba enamorada de José Vicente Adot Rabell, el que correspondía a su amor, pero debido a la posición social inferior del muchacho sus padres se oponían rotundamente a esta relación.
A la muerte de su padre, la muchacha contrae matrimonio con el hombre que amaba y al año sale embarazada, pero en el parto sobrevienen graves complicaciones y la criatura y la madre que apenas tenía 23 años fallecen.
Esto sucedió el tres de mayo de 1901, en ocasión Día de la Santísima Santa Cruz y el cuerpo fue enterrado en una modesta bóveda del Cementerio Colón, con la niña que nació sin vida colocada a sus pies, según la costumbre.
Se cuenta que su entristecido esposo visitaba el lugar dos y tres veces al día, tocando en el mármol con una de las argollas para despertar a su mujer, una acción que realizó durante 40 años hasta que abandonó el mundo de los vivos.
La amarga historia de amor llega a oídos del célebre artista cubano José Vilalta Saavedra, autor de los monumentos a José Martí en el Parque Central, a los Ocho Estudiantes de Medicina y a Francisco Albear, entre otras obras.
El se ofreció para crear una estatua a la difunta y como se encontraba en ese momento en Italia solicitó una foto de Amalia y comenzo el trabajo de esculpirla en mármol de Carrara y la trajo a Cuba personalmente en 1909.
Dicen que el día que se situó la escultura en la tumba, la fallecida reencarnó en aquella figura y a partir de ese momento José Vicente, incorporo un nuevo ritual, cuando se iba se retiraba lentamente sin darle la espalda.
Hoy la tumba nunca le faltan flores y diariamente a ella acuden miles de personas
En 1914 cuando Amelia llevaba 13 años de muerta, fallece el padre de su pobre marido y se decide enterrarlo en la misma bóveda y entonces ocurre un hecho insólito y quizá inesplicable, que hasta la fecha constituye un verdadero enigma.
José Vicente pide estar presente en la exhumación para ver al amor de su vida por última vez y con estupor descubren todos los presentes que los dos cuerpos estaban intactos y que Amelia estrechaba a la niña entre sus brazos.
A partir de ese instante Amelia, devino “La Milagrosa” y así la protectora de las futuras madres y niños, alcanzando relieve internacional y su tumba es un lugar sagrado, venerado y muy respetado por creyentes y profanos.
José Vicente Adot Rabell, dejó de existir en 1941 y de acuerdo a sus deseos fue enterrado junto a su amada, sin embargo la famosa argolla de la tapa de la bóveda que toco durante cuatro décadas despareció misteriosamente, pero aún se mantienen las otras tres.
En ese sitio los fieles dejan ropas de bebito, biberones, juguetes y hasta dinero, llevados con extrema humildad, por una persona regularmente a la congregación de Santa Teresa, en el Vedado, donde se destinan en fines de beneficencia.
