En él puede apreciarse la historia de una familia que desde el siglo XIX decidiera hacer del café un medio de vida, cuando los hermanos José María y Ramón Gaviña iniciaran el negocio en 1870 plantando frijoles a mano en una granja en el sur de Cuba.

Su origen se remonta a los originales hermanos José María y Ramón Gaviña comenzaron esta empresa hace más de un siglo en 1870 cuando abandonaron su tierra natal en España en busca de una vida mejor. Se instalaron en las fértiles montañas del sur de Cuba y plantaron las semillas de lo que se convertiría en Gaviña Gourmet Café.
El fundador de esta empresa cubana, Don Francisco, nació en la finca familiar de café Hacienda Buenos Aires. De niño, trabajaba en el campo con su propio padre, observando y aprendiendo los secretos del café de calidad creciente. Pasaba horas y horas ayudando a sembrar las semillas e instando a las pequeñas plantas a crecer.
Desde entonces, ha habido Gaviñas dirigiendo el negocio de café – desde las raíces de cultivo de café en 1870 hasta nuestro negocio de tostado de café en Los Ángeles fundado en 1967. Han transcurrido 150 años, y ahora la familia Gaviña continúa con el negocio. Allí se vende además del café, cervezas, los muy gustados pasteles cubanos, y bocadillos. También ofertan “latas de coco de La Habana”, café con leche y los famosos cortaditos.
“Elegimos el centro y este distrito histórico porque es un lugar emocionante con vitalidad, por lo que fue natural para nosotros”, dice el copropietario Frank Aparicio. “Nos tomó un tiempo la planificación y elegir el lugar correcto, pero el centro de la ciudad era perfecto”, explicó.
Otra familia triunfadora cubana que ha puesto por delante sus raíces nacionales fuera de la nación fracturada que ha quedado atrás.
