En días recientes, sostiene EFE, medios de prensa independientes se refirieron a la presunta modificación al pago de los impuestos en moneda nacional (CUP) de hasta 1.000 pesos establecidos para los cubanos en su primer viaje al exterior del año en el que importan artículos a su regreso al país.
Según esos rumores, a partir del 1 de septiembre los cubanos tendrían que pagar la tasas aduaneras en pesos convertibles (CUC, equivalente al dólar) todas sus importaciones al país, sin excepción alguna, lo que en la práctica multiplica por 25 en valor del arancel, ya que un CUC vale 25 CUP.
En Cuba hay 2 monedas oficiales diferentes que conviven en el país desde el 1994, el CUP y el CUC. Dos monedas parecidos en diseno y formato pero con valores muy distintos entre ellas.
