En la Isla, García habia sido primero bailarina (hizo ballet clásico por 13 años), antes de entrar al modelaje y la actuación.
Al llegar a Estados Unidos, “No hablaba una palabra de inglés, pero tenía claro que quería actuar”, dijo García, de 34 años, en una entrevista telefónica con la AFP.Tuve que aprenderme literalmente el parlamento, cada palabra, me decían otra cosa y no entendía”, pero Tomei “fue un amor de persona, trabajar con ella fue inolvidable”.
Desde entonces fue la esposa de un convicto en Panamá, ha sido la sobreviviente de un apocalipsis zombi y ahora agente de la DEA buscando a un narcotraficante colombiano parecido a Pablo Escobar.
Hoy es también estrella del show sobre zombis Fear the Walking Dead, hermano del programa original The Walking Dead.
Superada la barrera del idioma, los papeles se multiplican y García siente que es un buen momento para los actores latinos.
En Fear the Walking Dead, que llega a los cines de Estados Unidos el 3 de octubre, fue filmada completamente en Bogotá, al mismo tiempo que se producía la tercera temporada de Narcos (Netflix) y la película Loving Pablo, con Javier Bardem y Penélope Cruz.
Entre sus próximos proyectos, García actuó en Loca, una cinta que produjo y está filmada en su totalidad en Los Ángeles. Interpreta a la viuda de un pandillero asesinado que diez años después enfrenta a los responsables de su muerte.
¿En Cuba? “Claro que sí, fue donde comencé, en ese mundo lleno de música, en el Caribe. Uno de mis sueños es regresar con un proyecto y reencontrarme con esa niña que descubrió allí el teatro”.
