In the Havana corner of Barcelona and Amistad there was a café with the strange name of El Autogiro and it was in that place where the most universal of the Cuban cries was born, by the hand of the composer Moises Simons.
He tells that one night they were sitting next to a table Sindo Garay and the prestigious author of the melody that travels the world, when he passed by the street near the establishment a seller of toasted peanuts.
He entered the cafe and Simons bought him a peanut cone and then took a napkin and drew with his fountain pen the five lines of the pentagram and quickly began to write the notes of a melody.
A few months passed and it was heard for the first time in 1927 in the voice of Rita Montaner the pregón, entitled “El Manisero”, which finally became one of the most famous songs of the wide Cuban musical repertoire.

El Manisero was put on the movie screen in the film “Romance del Palmar”, sung by Rita Montaner and when in 1928 he recorded it for the Columbia Record House, it can be said that the fame of Moisés Simons began.
In 1929 Antonio Machín popularized it in Spain and New York and that same year he filmed a short film with the name of Coconut Vendor, where he appears to the famous interpreter of the island proclaiming the already famous cones.
The brother of Moisés Simons provided the composer with a promotional trip through Europe and during his stay in Paris he realized that all the orchestras that played Cuban music had El Manisero on their music stands.

When Ernesto Lecuona was hired by MGM to make the film The cuba song, he included Simons’ masterpiece as main theme and even the famous Hollywood artist Judy Garland sang a piece of that proclamation in the movie Nace una estrella.
Its success took the United States and the European continent to a rage for the rumba that would last until the 40s and the best-selling version was made by Don Azpiazu and in English it was sung by Gilbert and Sunshine and Stan Kenton.
COMO NACIÓ EL CUBANISIMO Y UNIVERSAL PREGÓN “EL MANISERO”.
En la habanera esquina de Barcelona y Amistad existía un café con el extraño nombre de El Autogiro y fue en esa lugar donde nació el más universal de los pregones cubanos, de la mano del compositor Moises Simons.
Cuenta que una noche estaban sentados junto a una mesa Sindo Garay y el prestigioso autor de la melodía que recorre el mundo, cuando pasó por la calle cercana al establecimiento un vendedor de maní tostado.
Penetró en el café y Simons le compró un cucurucho de maní y entonces tomó una servilleta y trazó con su estilográfica las cinco líneas del pentagrama y comenzó rápidamente a escribir las notas de una melodía.
Transcurrieron unos meses y se escuchó por vez primersa en 1927 en la voz de Rita Montaner el son pregón, titulado “El Manisero”, que finalmente se convirtió en uno de los temas más famoso del amplio repertorio musical cubano.
El Manisero fue puesto en la pantalla cinematográfica en el filme “Romance del Palmar”, cantado por Rita Montaner y cuando en 1928 lo graba para la Casa Discográfica Columbia, puede decirse que comenzó la fama de Moisés Simons.

En 1929 Antonio Machín lo popularizó en España y Nueva York y ese mismo año filmó un cortometraje con el nombre de Coconut Vendor, donde aparece al afamado interprete de la isla pregonando los ya famosos cucuruchos.
El hermano, de Moisés Simons le proporcionó al compositor un viaje de promoción por Europa y durante su estancia en París se percató que todas las orquestas que tocaban música cubana tenían en sus atriles El Manisero.
Cuando Ernesto Lecuona fue contratado por la MGM para que musicalizara la película The cuba song, incluyó como tema principal la obra cumbre de Simons y hasta la célebre artista de Hollywood Judy Garland cantó un pedazo de ese pregón en el filme Nace una estrella.

Su éxito llevó a Estados Unidos y al continente europeo a un furor por la rumba que se prolongaría hasta la década del 40 y la versión más vendida fue la realizada por Don Azpiazu y en inglés la cantaron Gilbert y Sunshine y Stan Kenton.
