Five new and modern Dutch tugboats have been delivered to the Caribe Navigation Company, a subsidiary of the Cuban shipping company Grupo Empresarial de Transporte Marítimo Portuario (GEMAR), for its operation in Cuba, confirmed by a Marine Executive statement.
According to the information, the five tugboats – four of them model Stan Tug 2608, of 26 meters in length and with a bollard of 47 tons – were ready for exploitation in the fluvial port of Gorinchem. After the confirmation of the order they are already sailing towards Havana.
The fifth tugboat is the largest Damen ASD 2810 model, with a capacity of 60 tons of traction. All were built at the Damen Song Cam Shipyard in Vietnam.
Ezequiel Najmias, sales manager for America of the company Damen said that “this has been a very successful project thanks to the efforts of all parties involved.”
Najmias also stressed that in Europe they worked together, “quickly and precisely to meet the needs of the client.”
“Each tugboat – he said -” was delivered by a Damen team and upon arrival in Cuba was received by a Damen Services team. They made a detailed inspection after the transoceanic trip and made the final adjustments before each one goes into service. ”
Three of the five tugboats are of the “standard” type, the largest of them, the Damen ASD 2810, is equipped with a variety of options including a fire fighting system and crane.
All will become part of a fleet of 40 Damen tugs, tanks and RoRo ferries operated by GEMAR.

Cinco nuevos y modernos remolcadores holandeses han sido entregados a Caribe Navigation Company, una filial de la empresa marítima cubana Grupo Empresarial de Transporte Marítimo Portuario (GEMAR), para su explotación en Cuba, confirmó mediante un comunicado Marine Executive.
De acuerdo con la información, los cinco remolcadores – cuatro de ellos modelo Stan Tug 2608, de 26 metros de eslora y con un bolardo de 47 toneladas – se encontraban listos para su explotación en el puerto fluvial de Gorinchem. Luego de la confirmación del pedido ya están navegando rumbo a La Habana.
El quinto remolcador es modelo Damen ASD 2810 más grande, con capacidad de 60 toneladas de tracción. Todos fueron construidos en el Astillero Damen Song Cam en Vietnam.
Ezequiel Najmias, gerente de Ventas para América de la compañía Damen dijo que “éste ha sido un proyecto muy exitoso gracias al esfuerzo de todas las partes involucradas”.
Najmias destacó además que en Europa se trabajó mancomunadamente, “de forma rápida y precisa para satisfacer las necesidades del cliente.”
“Cada remolcador – dijo – “fue entregado por un equipo de Damen y al llegar a Cuba fue recibido por un equipo de Damen Services. Hicieron una inspección detallada después del viaje transoceánico y realizaron los ajustes finales antes de que cada uno entre en servicio.”
Tres de los cinco remolcadores son del tipo “estandar”, el mayor de ellos, el Damen ASD 2810, está equipado con una variedad de opciones que incluyen un sistema de lucha contra incendios y grúa.
Todos pasarán a formar parte de una flota de 40 remolcadores Damen, tanques y transbordadores RoRo operados por GEMAR.
