American Airlines would increase flights to Havana.
The Department of Transportation of the United States (DOT) proposed this Friday to grant new flights to Havana five major American airlines, after others like Alaska Airlines, Spirit and Frontier canceled their trips to the Island due to the low demand.
If the proposal is approved, the airlines that would increase their flights would be: American Airlines and Delta Air Lines, a flight every day from Miami; leaving Fort Lauderdale, Southwest Airlines one every day and JetBlue Airways 6 times a week (Sunday to Friday) and one a week from Boston; In addition, United Airlines will be added from Houston 6 times a week (Sunday through Friday).
Under an agreement with Cuba signed in 2016, each country can operate up to 20 daily round-trip flights between the United States and Havana but several US carriers that received flights that year, then canceled. Now the DOT tries to reassign them to the interested operators.
Objections to the tentative decision of DOT expire on April 16, 2018.
This month the Government of Donald Trump renewed its warning of travel to Cuba, although it kept it at the same level (3) that had proposed last February, recommended “reconsidering the trip”. The United States warned its travelers that in Cuba at least 24 American diplomats were victims of alleged acoustic attacks that affected their health.

Aerolíneas estadounidenses aumentarían los vuelos a La Habana.
El Departamento de Transporte de los Estados Unidos (DOT, por sus siglas en inglés) propuso este viernes otorgarle nuevos vuelos a La Habana cinco grandes aerolíneas americanas, luego de que otras como Alaska Airlines, Spirit y Frontier cancelaran sus viajes a la Isla debido a la baja demanda.
De aprobarse la propuesta, las aerolíneas que aumentarían sus vuelos serían: American Airlines y Delta Air Lines, un vuelo cada día desde Miami; saliendo de Fort Lauderdale, Southwest Airlines uno cada día y JetBlue Airways 6 veces a la semana (de domingo a viernes) y uno a la semana desde Boston; se sumaría además United Airlines desde Houston 6 veces por semana (de domingo a viernes).
Bajo un acuerdo con Cuba firmado en 2016, cada país puede operar hasta 20 vuelos diarios de ida y vuelta entre Estados Unidos y La Habana pero varios transportistas estadounidenses que recibieron vuelos ese año, luego cancelaron. Ahora el DOT intenta reasignarlos a los operadores interesados.
Las objeciones a la decisión tentativa del DOT vencen el 16 de abril de 2018.
Este mes el Gobierno de Donald Trump renovó su alerta de viaje a Cuba, aunque la mantuvo en el mismo nivel (3) que había propuesto en febrero pasado, recomendó “reconsiderar el viaje”. Estados Unidos alertaba a sus viajeros que en Cuba al menos 24 diplomáticos americanos fueron víctimas de presuntos ataques acústicos que afectaron su salud.
