Cuban model and actor Juan Betancourt is Lorenzo in ‘La leyes de la thermodynamics’, a romantic comedy directed by Mateo Gil that opened the Malaga Film Festival on Friday and will arrive in Spanish theaters on April 20.
In the film, the first in which Betancourt participates, Mateo Gil gives a twist to the genre mixing it with physics.
Manuel (Vito Sanz), a promising and somewhat neurotic scientist, intends to demonstrate how his relationship with Elena (Berta Vázquez), a sought-after model and actress, has not been a complete disaster because of her fault, but because she was determined from the beginning by the laws of physics. The matter is complicated when he enters the game Lorenzo (Juan Betancourt).
The film questions whether or not there is free will and whether the human being should be blamed for everything that goes wrong in their relationships.
The film is “a risky mix of genres,” Gil said at a press conference at the Malaga Festival, reports Europa Press.
He pointed out that the trigger for the idea was “to read a popular science book” with a very basic definition of “the laws of thermodynamics”. “It occurred to me to pull the thread and make a kind of fake documentary,” he said, accompanied by the main actors.
Gil said the characters “describe one facet of all of us.” “When we feel more insecure we are like Manel and when we feel more secure we are like Pablo (Chino Darín),” explained the director.
On his first film experience, Betancourt said he was “quite nervous.” His character “has little text but is very present,” he added. “I felt very comfortable and watching them work has made me realize that I wanted to participate more in the film and be able to show more things of the character by transmitting without words.”
Betancourt, 27, lived in Cuba until she was 17 and has developed her career, mainly as a model, in Spain.
He has worked with designers and brands such as Tom Ford, Giorgio Armani, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Custo, Desigual, Roberto Verino, Vitorio & Lucchino, among others.
He recently participated in the television show MasterChef and has acted in short films such as A Whiskey Film.

El modelo y actor cubano Juan Betancourt es Lorenzo en ‘Las leyes de la termodinámica’, una comedia romántica dirigida por Mateo Gil que ha inaugurado este viernes el Festival de Cine de Málaga y llegará a las salas españolas el 20 de abril.
En el largometraje, el primero en el que participa Betancourt, Mateo Gil da un giro al género mezclándolo con la física.

Señaló que el detonante de la idea fue “leer un libro de divulgación científica” con una definición muy básica de “las leyes de la termodinámica”. “Se me ocurrió tirar del hilo y hacer una especie de falso documental”, afirmó acompañado por los actores principales.
Gil dijo que los personajes “describen una faceta de todos nosotros”. “Cuando nos sentimos más inseguros somos como Manel y cuando nos sentimos más seguros somos como Pablo (Chino Darín)”, explicó el director.
Sobre su primera experiencia en el cine, Betancourt dijo que “estaba bastante nervioso”. Su personaje “tiene poco texto pero está muy presente”, añadió. “Me sentí muy cómodo y verlos trabajar a ellos me ha hecho darme cuenta de que quería participar más en la película y poder mostrar más cosas del personaje transmitiendo sin palabras”.
Betancourt, de 27 años, vivió en Cuba hasta los 17 y ha desarrollado su carrera, principalmente como modelo, en España.
Ha trabajado con diseñadores y marcas como Tom Ford, Giorgio Armani, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Custo, Desigual, Roberto Verino, Vitorio & Lucchino, entre otros.
