US President Donald J. Trump has reiterated his desire to eliminate the visa lottery – also known as bombo – as he considers it a priority to implement a migratory system based on merit.

The president said on Friday through his personal Twitter account that he would not sign a bill that was not based on merit or that did not include funds to raise the border wall with Mexico and end with the visa lottery.

“The Democrats are forcing the disintegration of families on the border with their horrible and cruel legislative agenda.” Any Immigration Bill must have full funds for the Wall, complete the capture and release, the visa and chain lottery, and aim to an immigration based on merits, “Trump tweeted.

The president again blamed the Democrats for the separation of families on the border, which has brought sad consequences, and accuses them of having a “horrible and cruel” legislative agenda.

Trump has insisted throughout his term in the disappearance of the visa lottery program but attacked him more strongly after the attack in New York last November. “I am beginning the process of ending the visa lottery program, and I am going to ask Congress to immediately start work to get rid of this program,” he said at the time.

This time, he has also reiterated his intention to end “chain immigration,” which allows legal residents to apply to the United States for family members abroad.

El presidente estadounidense Donald J. Trump ha reiterado sus deseos de eliminar la lotería de visas -también conocida como bombo- pues considera que es prioritario implementar un sistema migratorio basado en los méritos.

El mandatario dijo este viernes a través de su cuenta personal de Twitter que no firmaría un proyecto de ley que no estuviera basado en los méritos o que no incluyera fondos para levantar el muro fronterizo con México y terminara con la lotería de visas.

“Los demócratas están forzando la desintegración de las familias en la frontera con su horrible y cruel agenda legislativa. Cualquier Proyecto de Ley de Inmigración debe tener fondos completos para el Muro, finalizar la captura y liberación, la lotería de visas y la cadena y apuntar a una inmigración basada en méritos”, tuiteó Trump.

El presidente volvió a echar la culpa a los demócratas por la separación de familias en la frontera, la cual ha traído tristes consecuencias, y los acusa de tener una agenda legislativa “horrible y cruel”.

Trump ha insistido durante todo su mandato en la desaparición del programa de lotería de visas pero arremetió contra él con más fuerza luego del atentado en Nueva York del pasado mes de noviembre. “Estoy comenzando el proceso de poner fin al programa de lotería de visas. Voy a pedirle al Congreso que inicie inmediatamente el trabajo para deshacernos de este programa”, dijo en aquel momento.

Esta vez, también ha reiterado su intención de poner fin a la “inmigración en cadena”, que permite que residentes legales soliciten el ingreso a Estados Unidos para sus familiares en el extranjero.
