Cuba and the American center Roswell Park, among the best hospitals against cancer in the USA and New York-based, announced on Wednesday the creation of a biotechnology company called Innovative Immunotherapy Alliance that will investigate and develop new drugs and therapies against cancer.

The mixed entity, in which Roswell Park will be associated with the Center for Molecular Immunology (CIM) of Cuba, will be installed in the Special Zone of Mariel, a pole of attraction for foreign investment 45 kilometers west of Havana, according to informed sources of both parties.

The announcement represents a milestone in relations between the island and the United States, which are going through a period of tension after the Donald Trump administration decided to reverse the bilateral approach initiated in 2014 by the then President Barack Obama.

La entidad mixta, en la que Roswell Park estará asociado con el Centro de Inmunología Molecular (CIM) de Cuba, se instalará en la Zona Especial de Mariel -un polo de atracción de inversión extranjera a 45 kilómetros al oeste de La Habana-, según informaron fuentes de ambas partes.

El anuncio representa un hito en las relaciones entre la Isla y Estados Unidos, que atraviesan un momento de tensiones después de que la Administración de Donald Trump decidiera revertir el acercamiento bilateral iniciado en 2014 por el entonces presidente Barack Obama.
