Por sus servicios prestados , tanto en la sanidad como en los combates , el Mayor General José Manuel Capote, le concedió el grado de Capitán, y le asignó la responsabilidad de los hospitales de la región, dada su experiencia y conocimientos de la llamada medicina verde. Durante la República colaboró con el derrocamiento del dictador Gerardo Machado.

El jueves 21 de enero de 1936 a la edad de 91 años muere Anita La Capitana, quien a lo largo de su vida pródiga sembró en la inmensidad de su pueblo el cariño y el respeto a quien se hizo acreedora. Su sepelio fue una verdadera manifestación de duelo y en el momento prospero fue acompañada por un pelotón de ceremonia a los acordes de la Bayamesa y el himno invasor interpretado por la banda municipal como merecido homenaje a la valiosa capitana de las guerras por la independencia.
