El mundo fílmico cubano pre estrenó por la Jornada Cultural Cubana la película ‘Nido de mantis’ cuyo verdadero estreno será en diciembre y principios del año siguiente. Dirigido por Arturo Soto, el filme se mueve entre la tragedia y el policiaco para relatar la historia de un triángulo amoroso entre dos hombres y una mujer a lo largo de treinta o cuarenta años. Una mañana de agosto de 1994 aparecen muertos los tres, y la presunta culpable parece ser la hija de la mujer, una muchacha de veinte años, la única persona que estaba en la casa cuando ocurrieron los hechos.

La joven se declara inocente y para demostrarlo cuenta, ante el fiscal y la abogada que investigan el caso, la historia de amor de sus padres (nunca se aclara cuál de los dos fue su verdadero progenitor) con su madre, de modo que el filme se remonta a los años cincuenta, y a los sesenta.

La película está a a cargo de Luis Alberto García, quien se ha convertido en un actor de referencia en Cuba en lo que a buen hacer se refiere y quien hace un secundario de lujo, pues resulta ser testigo de la larga historia de amor de los protagonistas, y conoce el secreto de la muerte de los tres amantes. Los investigadores están acosándolo para que cuente lo que sabe. Solo que en una escena, en un expresivo primer plano, aprovechado al máximo por el actor, él se niega a confesar quién es el verdadero culpable, para evitarse un dolor inmenso. Hay que ver la película para comprenderla.

Yara Massiel, Armando Miguel Gómez y Caleb Casas son los protagonistas del filme. La dirección de producción estuvo a cargo de Francisco Álvarez; la dirección de fotografía, de Ernesto Calzado; la directora asistente fue Tessa Hernández; el responsable de la dirección de arte fue Carlos Urdanivia; la música es de Beatriz Corona; la edición, de Osvaldo Donatién y Sotto; y el diseño de vestuario, de Vladimir Cuenca.
