CHUCHO VALDÉS Y ORISHAS: MEJORES ÁLBUMES LATINOS DEL 2018 EN BILLBOARD.
Dos discos cubanos han sido incluidos en la lista de los 20 mejores álbumes latinos de 2018 de la revista especializada Billboard, según una selección de los críticos publicada la pasada semana.
Se trata de Jazz Batá II, del pianista Chucho Valdés, en el puesto número diez, y de Gourmet, la más reciente propuesta musical de Orishas.
Billboard describe el álbum de Valdés como una “obra maestra” que rinde homenaje a su padre, el pianista pionero Bebo Valdés.
“Jazz Batá II evoca espíritus africanos ancestrales, pero también los de los grandes progresistas del jazz, los compositores clásicos y un siglo de innovadores de la música popular cubana”, destaca Judy Cantor-Navas.
“El fundador de Irakere destaca la gracia atemporal y la experimentación continua que marcó la carrera de su padre, y que ha caracterizado su propia producción artística”, añade el crítico en una reseña del disco seleccionado.
Sobre Gourmet, el crítico identificado bajo las iniciales LC resalta la “marca distintiva de hip-hop cubano con un atractivo internacional” del trío Orishas.
Presenta el regreso de Yotuel Romero, Hiram Riverí “Russo” Medina y Roldán González, como un esfuerzo “delicioso con su mezcla de voces audaces y melodías y raíces cubanas”.
Junto a los cubanos aparecen en la lista de Billboard, otros exponentes de la música latina como Rosalía, J Balvin, Maluma, Mon Laferte, Natalia Lafourcade, Víctor Manuelle y Gilberto Santa Rosa, entre otros.
Orishas y Ana de Armas se extrañan ‘Everyday’
Este es el último estreno del trío cubano, donde la actriz de ‘Blade Runner 2049’ es musa de carne y hueso que da vida a uno de los temas del disco ‘Gourmet’. Videoclip dirigido por Pedro Vázquez y Yotuel Romero.

Two Cuban albums have been included in the list of the 20 best Latin albums of 2018 of the specialized magazine Billboard, according to a selection of critics published last week.
They are Jazz Batá II, pianist Chucho Valdés, number ten, and Gourmet, Orishas’ most recent musical proposal.
Billboard describes Valdés’ album as a “masterpiece” that pays homage to his father, pioneer pianist Bebo Valdés.
“Jazz Batá II evokes ancestral African spirits, but also those of the great progressives of jazz, classical composers and a century of innovators of Cuban popular music”, highlights Judy Cantor-Navas.
“The founder of Irakere highlights the timeless grace and continuous experimentation that marked the career of his father, and that has characterized his own artistic production,” adds the critic in a review of the selected album.
About Gourmet, the critic identified under the initials LC highlights the “distinctive brand of Cuban hip-hop with an international appeal” of the Orishas trio.
It presents the return of Yotuel Romero, Hiram Riverí “Russo” Medina and Roldán González, as a “delicious effort with its mix of bold voices and melodies and Cuban roots”.
Along with the Cubans, other exponents of Latin music such as Rosalía, J Balvin, Maluma, Mon Laferte, Natalia Lafourcade, Víctor Manuelle and Gilberto Santa Rosa appear among the others.
Orishas and Ana de Armas miss ‘Everyday’
This is the last premiere of the Cuban trio, where the actress of ‘Blade Runner 2049’ is a muse of flesh and blood that gives life to one of the themes of the album ‘Gourmet’. Video clip directed by Pedro Vázquez and Yotuel Romero.
