UNKNOWN CUBA: “THE FOREST OF STONE IN PINAR DEL RIO”.
On the outskirts of the town, which bears the name of a heroic and historical fighter for the independence of Cuba against Spain, Isabel Rubio in Guane, in the western province of Pinar del Río, on both banks of the Cuyaguateje River, many trees and shrubs are erected timber as well as numerous carbonated rocks of the Jagua and Guasasa formation of Jurassic-Cretaceous ages, composed, according to the experts, by the formations of hundreds of minimogotes or macrodientes of dog that exceed the 10 meters of height.
It is known to this beautiful place as Stone Forest and was declared on May 8, 1996 National Monument, for its undoubted beauty and natural and archaeological value.
The biodiversity that protects this site has been threatened over the years by the greed of man, who has exploited the stone with the simple purpose of making paint, popularly known as Marmolina.
The fauna represents a high degree of endemism and biodiversity conditioned by its geological evolution. This has also contributed to the existence of very numerous groups such as: arachnids, reptiles, molluscs, butterflies, birds and in smaller numbers small mammals.
Among the endemic mammals that abound in the forest are: Order Chiroptera (Murciélago) Cuban amphisbaena, analysis equestris, tropidophis, analysis porcatus, cadea blaniodes and others. Diurnal butterflies, caiguanabus papilla, exynus papilla, hypna efhigenia, burca with color chorantus radians, asbolis capucinus and others.
Birds are counted with: Falco sparverioides (Kestrel). Codenus virginious cubensis (Quail). sturnella magna hipperepis (Sabanero). Tochomis phoenicobiairadil (Palm Swift).
In the Forest there are trees that many begin to grow, others already with some adulthood, among them: the Cedar, the Jobo, the Quiebrahacha, the Majagua, the Caimitillo, the Cupey, the Caguairán, the Sabina, the Júcaro, the Jagua, the Almácigo, the Yagruma, the Ateje, the Dagame, the Guásima, the Yamagua, and the Curujeyal.
CUBA DESCONOCIDA: EL BOSQUE DE PIEDRA PINAREÑO.
A las afueras del poblado, que lleva por nombre una heroica e histórica luchadora por la independencia de Cuba contra España, Isabel Rubio en Guane, en la occidental provincia de Pinar del Río, por ambas márgenes del río Cuyaguateje, se erigen muchos árboles y arbustos maderables además de numerosas rocas carbonatadas de la formación Jagua y Guasasa de edades Jurásico-cretácico, compuestas a decir de los expertos, por las formaciones de centenares de minimogotes o macrodientes de perro que sobrepasan los 10 metros de altura.
Se le conoce a este bello paraje como Bosque de Piedra y fue declarado el 8 de mayo de 1996 Monumento Nacional, por su indudable hermosura y valor natural y arqueológico.
La biodiversidad que resguarda este sitio ha sido amenazada a lo largo de los años por la codicia del hombre, quien ha explotado la piedra con el simple propósito de elaborar pintura, popularmente conocida como Marmolina.
La fauna representa un alto grado de endemismo y biodiversidad condicionado por su evolución geológica. Esto también ha contribuido a la existencia de grupos muy numerosos como: arácnidos, reptiles, moluscos, las mariposas, las aves y en menor números pequeños mamíferos.
Dentro de los mamíferos endémicos que abundan en el bosque encontramos: Orden Chiroptera (Murciélago) amphisbaena cubana, análisis equestris, tropidophis, análisis porcatus, cadea blaniodes y otros. Mariposas diurnas, papilla caiguanabus, papilla exynus, hypna efhigenia, burca con color chorantus radians, asbolis capucinus y otros.
Aves se cuenta con: Falco sparverioides (Cernícalo). Codenus virginious cubensis (Codorniz). sturnella magna hipperepis (Sabanero). Tochomis phoenicobiairadil (Vencejo de palma).
En el Bosque están árboles que muchos empiezan a crecer, otros ya con alguna adultez, entre ellos: el Cedro, el Jobo, la Quiebrahacha, la Majagua, el Caimitillo, el Cupey, el Caguairán, la Sabina, el Júcaro, la Jagua, el Almácigo, la Yagruma, el Ateje, el Dagame, la Guásima, la Yamagua, y el Curujeyal.
