EN CUBA MÁS POPULAR QUE LA PELOTA: EL ILEGAL JUEGO DE LA BOLITA.
Todo el año los cubanos están más pendientes de los números que salieron – y que conocen por la radio de Miami, Internet, las emisiones satelitales y hasta aplicaciones Android – que de cuál equipo marcha al frente de la Serie Nacional o el torneo Sub 23.
Yasmany quien vive en Santa Clara es apuntador y en su cuadra lo sabe todo el mundo. A cualquier hora llegan a su casa los clientes para darle los numeritos que él lleva al banco. No le preocupa para nada que la bolita sea “ilegal”, lleva años en el negocio y nunca ha tenido problemas.

Aunque el Capítulo 13 del Código Penal de la República de Cuba en su Artículo 219 establece que “el banquero, colector, apuntador o promotor de juegos ilícitos es sancionado con privación de libertad de uno a tres años o multa de trescientas a mil cuotas o ambas”, sabe que es casi imposible que la policía le haga pasar un mal rato en un país donde la palabra “ilegal” se acerca más al término “tolerado” que al “prohibido”.
Es que en Cuba se ha jugado siempre, “desde el cabo de San Antonio hasta la Punta de Maisí” como decía José Antonio Saco y cuando en 1959 el Gobierno de Fidel Castro se propuso eliminar lo que se consideraba uno de los principales vicios de la sociedad isleña, fracasó rotundamente.
Que el ilegal juego de la bolita sea más popular en Cuba que el béisbol, deporte nacional, pudiera parecer una exageración pero no es así.
Por supuesto que los boliteros tuvieron que tomar providencias y organizarse para en los momentos de mayor persecución poder pasar desapercibidos, pero siempre lograron sobrevivir. Banqueros, listeros y apuntadores poseen una estructura tan eficiente que ya la quisieran para sí los cárteles de la droga.
En lo más alto del negocio siempre está el banquero. Él es el capo, el dueño del negocio y a quien le pertenecen la mayor parte de las ganancias. “Los banqueros sólo confían en su familia y en ellos, nadie más cuenta ni toca el dinero. En este negocio cualquiera te puede pasar gato por liebre”, explica Yasmany.
Le siguen los mensajeros que pueden ser uno o varios, en dependencia del alcance territorial del banquero, que es el que se encarga de recoger el dinero de manos de los listeros que son los peces pequeños de la bolita, los que dan la cara, los que más se conocen y los que más riesgos asumen al ir de puerta en puerta recogiendo dinero y distribuyendo premios.
Los jugadores viejos cuentan que la primera charada que se jugó en Cuba fue la China, que sólo llegaba hasta el número 36, después llegaría la dominicana y por último la cubana que se extendió hasta el 100. Para dar con los números que van a salir sirven desde los sueños, las supersticiones, las “combinaciones” matemáticas, hasta la insistencia; pero, al final, todo es una cuestión de suerte.
