¿Se puede hablar aún de Revolución en Cuba?

La falta de alternancia y pluralismo político no me permite afirmar que se pueda hablar de Revolución. Legalmente existió hasta el momento en que se adoptó la Constitución de 1976, que institucionalizó el Gobierno actual.

¿Qué habría que salvar del período revolucionario?

Yo no salvaría nada, en mi opinión es un período marcado por la intolerancia política y el adoctrinamiento.

En una nueva Cuba no se debería prescindir del acceso a la educación y a la salud, que no son logro o gracia de la “Revolución”, son una obligación del Estado.

La educación en Cuba, en los últimos 25 años, ha experimentado un retroceso en la calidad de la enseñanza, determinada principalmente por la situación económica y una serie de políticas públicas erráticas; por ejemplo, incorporar a las aulas maestros (adolescentes) emergentes.

El daño social es incalculable. La educación en la Cuba del mañana desempeñará un papel decisivo en la promoción de los derechos humanos y la democracia.

Por supuesto, hay que eliminar todas y cada una de las prácticas actuales que discriminan a individuos por motivos políticos, la aplicación de planes de estudio que constituyen adoctrinamiento, la prohibición de instituciones de enseñanza privadas, la negación de la libertad académica del cuerpo docente y de los alumnos. Sobre todo, hay que respetar el derecho de los padres a elegir el tipo de educación de sus hijos y escoger escuelas distintas de las públicas.

¿Cómo clasificarías el momento actual de Cuba?

Por clasificarlo de alguna forma, diría que especial. El incremento del acceso a internet en un sector de la población ha demostrado que los cubanos no quieren guardar silencio, a pesar de la represión, el eficiente control social y la ausencia de mecanismos de participación política.

A falta de libertad para reunirse, asociarse y manifestarse públicamente, las redes sociales se han convertido en el espacio donde coincidimos, nos expresamos y apoyamos. Se ha desarrollado el discurso político y sobre asuntos de interés público.

A pesar de la intolerancia política, se ha escrutado y criticado a las instituciones del Estado. Sin embargo, opino que es necesaria la formación (educación) urgente en materia de derechos humanos.

Las redes también son un espacio donde se replica la intolerancia y la discriminación por motivos políticos; donde es evidente no solo la repetición de patrones de comportamientos dictatoriales del grupo político que tanto se critica, sino también sus discursos.

No se nace demócrata. En el momento actual es necesario que aprendamos a serlo. Creo que es una necesidad urgente.

The social damage is incalculable. Education in tomorrow’s Cuba will play a decisive role in the promotion of human rights and democracy.

Of course, each and every one of the current practices that discriminate against individuals for political reasons, the application of curricula that constitute indoctrination, the prohibition of private teaching institutions, the denial of the academic freedom of the teaching staff and of the students. Above all, the right of parents to choose the type of education of their children and choose schools other than public ones must be respected.

How would you classify Cuba’s current moment?

By classifying it in some way, I would say special. The increase in Internet access in a sector of the population has shown that Cubans do not want to remain silent, despite repression, efficient social control and the absence of mechanisms of political participation.

In the absence of freedom to meet, associate and publicly manifest, social networks have become the space where we agree, express and support each other. The political discourse has been developed and on matters of public interest.

Despite political intolerance, state institutions have been scrutinized and criticized. However, I believe that urgent education (education) in human rights is necessary.

Networks are also a space where intolerance and discrimination for political reasons are replicated; where it is evident not only the repetition of patterns of dictatorial behavior of the political group that is criticized so much, but also their speeches.

You are not born a Democrat. At the present time it is necessary that we learn to be. I think it’s an urgent need.
