De padres españoles, Rosita Fornes nació en Nueva York el 11 de febrero de 1923 (Edad actual 95 años). Su padre era catalán y su madre madrileña. La madre se divorcia y luego él fallece, según cuenta la Fornés. La madre se vuelve a casar con A. Fornés cuando tenía 4 ó 5 años. Se cría al lado de él, y por eso tiene el apellido de Fornés, pero el apellido del progenitor es catalán: Palet, y el de su madre Bonavía.

Rosalía Palet Bonavia, conocida mundialmente como Rosa Fornés. Pertenece a la lista de las grandes intérpretes cubanas que alcanzaran prolongados éxitos fuera Cuba en la primera mitad del siglo XX, desde el arraigo con que triunfaron en los escenarios de Cuba. Tiene más de seis décadas de experiencia en el arte incursionando en la Opereta, la Zarzuela, la comedia ligera, el drama clásico, la revista musical, el Cabaret la radio, el Cine y la televisión.

Ha trabajado junto a los más famosos actores y actrices de su época, como los argentinos Hugo del Carril, Luis Sandrini, Libertad Lamarque y Tita Merello; o los cubanos Rita Montaner, Maruja González, Zoraida Marrero, Bola de Nieve, Benny Moré, María de los Ángeles Santana y Esther Borja; y junto a los maestros Ernesto Lecuona, Rodrigo Prats, Adolfo Guzmán, González Mantici, o Armando Romeu.

Fundadora de la televisión cubana en donde realizó programas humorísticos, dramáticos y líricos. Es una artista muy carismática que ha sabido consolidar su popularidad y mantenerse en la preferencia del público. Su arte ha llegado a numerosos escenarios de Europa, Estados Unidos y América Latina. Ostenta el Honor al Mérito, otorgado en México; la Distinción a la Cultura Nacional y el Premio Nacional de Teatro.

Naturalizada cubana, vivió una etapa de su vida en México, pero la mayoría en Cuba.

En el año 1938, a los 15 años de edad, se inició como cantante en un programa competitivo llamado La Corte Suprema del Arte, donde obtuvo el primer lugar. Este hecho conduce a que unos meses después, debuta como actriz cinematográfica en el largometraje ‘Una Aventura Peligrosa’ (1939) dirigido por Ramón Peón. Su debut teatral ocurre en 1940 con la zarzuela ‘El asombro de Damasco’ en el teatro La Comedia. Un año antes había comenzado su carrera cinematográfica, la cual se consolida en la década del 40. Durante sus años de vida en México su éxito crece considerablemente.

Desde entonces hasta hoy cultivó varios géneros del canto, del baile y el drama, y devino la vedette más famosa de Cuba, México y España.

En México sostiene un amor inconcluso con el actor Mario Moreno (Cantinflas) y el subsiguiente matrimonio con el también famoso actor mexicano Manuel Medel con el cual tuvo su hija, Rosa María, que devino actriz del teatro y la televisión en Cuba.

Trabajó en más de una decena de filmes junto a las principales figuras de la Época de Oro del Cine Mexicano, tales como Joaquín Pardavé, los hermanos Soler, Luis Aguilar, Jorge Negrete, Pedro Infante, Tin Tan, Resortes, Marga López, Maria Victoria y muchas otras más. Trabajó en múltiples ocasiones con el famoso compositor Agustín Lara, con quién mantuvo una entrañable amistad. Fue declarada durante siete años consecutivos como la Primera Vedette de México y posteriormente como Primera Vedette de América.

En Cuba actuó como figura principal en la Compañía de Mario Martínez Casado, donde se consolidó como una de las más brillantes actrices de la época. También trabajó junto al famoso músico Ernesto Lecuona con el cual sostuvo una sólida amistad. Se unió en matrimonio y en el arte con el actor Armando Bianchi, inaugurando en Cuba las trasmisiones del Canal 2 con el programa ‘Mi Esposo Favorito’, el de mayor tele audiencia de la CMQ. En el año 1953 los integrantes de la pareja fueron seleccionados como Miss y Mister Televisión. Trabajó en los programas musicales de más alto rating de la televisión nacional como ‘El Casino de la Alegría’ , ‘Jueves de Partagás’, ‘Desfile de la Alegría’, y ‘Cita con Rosita’, entre otros.

En el año 1999 se presentó en el espectáculo Concierto del Recuerdo en el Star Fish de Miami Beach y en enero de 2003 vuelve con el concierto ‘Una Rosa para las Divas’, en el ASHE Auditorium del Hotel Hyatt, en el downtown de la ciudad de Miami. Ha sido una artista dedicada por entero a su público, muchos pueblos como el mexicano, el español, pero muy especialmente el cubano, le han reconocido su talento y le ha dado fama y popularidad, la que ella ha sabido corresponder.

Reconocimientos
Ostenta reconocimientos y distinciones por sus 65 años de actividad artística. Le fue otorgado el Premio Nacional de Teatro del año 2001, junto a María de los Ángeles Santana. Considerada una leyenda viva dentro del arte y la cultura cubana, una gran parte de la vida y obra de la vedette Rosita Fornés han sido recogida en el libro autobiográfico Rosita Fornés (2000) escrito por Evelio Mora y en el documental biográfico Rosita Fornés, mis tres vidas (1996) una producción cinematográfica de José Antonio Jiménez, dirigida por Luis Orlando Deulofeu.
