“Hoyo Perdido”, el caserío cubano donde el diablo dio las tres voces y nadie lo oyó..

Pocos cubanos pueden presumir de conocer el caserío de Hoyo Perdido. No aparece en el mapa, no tiene resultados de búsqueda en Google. Es un “no lugar” olvidado de todos en medio de la nada, oculto entre campos de caña y naranja agria del municipio Cumanayagua de Cienfuegos.

Tiene nombre, porque de alguna forma había que indicar que en medio del monte había un asentamiento humano; pero parece dudoso que algún especialista se interese en reflejarlo en un mapa. Total, en Hoyo Perdido casi no quedan vecinos y los pocos que quedan se están marchando.

Hoyo Perdido surgió en la década de 1980, cuando los campos de sus alrededores estaban llenos de reses y el Estado decidió construir algunos edificios de microbrigadas para que los campesinos estuvieran más cerca de sus vacas.

Todo fue bien por algunos años; pero, con la llegada del Período Especial, se desaparecieron las vacas. Un día los vecinos de Hoyo Perdido se levantaron y descubrieron que sólo quedaban los edificios de micro en medio de la nada y que ellos no tenían nada que hacer.

Entonces sucedió algo increíble para los habitantes de una ciudad. Los vecinos de la que había sido una pequeña comunidad ganadera comenzaron a abandonar sus apartamentos de mampostería para regresar a sus bohíos en el campo. Ni siquiera la falta de electricidad de muchas de ellas pudo frenar esta migración a la inversa. Hoyo perdido se fue quedando vacío.

Los pocos que se quedaron en los edificios se levantan cada mañana con la pregunta de qué harán con sus vidas. En el lugar no existe empleo ni perspectivas de que lo haya en un futuro. La escuela más cercana queda a 14 kilómetros de distancia y los niños deben ser recogidos en un coche tirado por caballos para asistir.

Few Cubans can boast of knowing the hamlet of Hoyo Perdido. It does not appear on the map, it does not have Google search results. It is a “no place” forgotten by everyone in the middle of nowhere, hidden between fields of cane and sour orange of Cumanayagua municipality of Cienfuegos.

It has a name, because somehow it was necessary to indicate that in the middle of the mountain there was a human settlement; but it seems doubtful that any specialist is interested in reflecting it on a map. Total, in Hoyo Perdido there are almost no neighbors and the few that are left are leaving.

Hoyo Perdido emerged in the 1980s, when the surrounding fields were full of cattle and the State decided to build some microbrigade buildings so that the peasants were closer to their cows.

Everything went well for some years; but, with the arrival of the Special Period, the cows disappeared. One day the residents of Hoyo Perdido got up and discovered that only the micro buildings were left in the middle of nowhere and that they had nothing to do.

Then something incredible happened for the inhabitants of a city. The neighbors of what had been a small cattle community began to abandon their masonry apartments to return to their huts in the countryside. Not even the lack of electricity of many of them could stop this migration in reverse. Lost hole was left empty.

The few who stayed in the buildings wake up every morning with the question of what they will do with their lives. In the place there is no employment or prospects that there will be in the future. The nearest school is 14 kilometers away and children must be picked up in a horse-drawn car to attend.
