En cada pueblo, en cada lugar de este mundo siempre, hay personajes y animales que se convierten en leyendas populares, hoy nos vamos a referir al famoso Chivo Perico bautizado así por su talento.

Este macho caprino nació el 20 de septiembre de 1925 en la Loma de los Zapotes en el municipio habanero de San Miguel del Padrón.

Perteneció a una familia de apellido Iglesias que lo regaló a una santera del barrio llamada María la Grande, que según la leyenda, esta lo ofrendó a Santa Bárbara pero la deidad no lo aceptó porque ese chivo estaba destinado a ser algo grande.

De adolescente acostumbraba a deambular por las calles como cualquier muchacho del vecindario, convirtiéndose en una mascota de la barriada donde nació.

En la década del 30 los trabajadores del transporte de San Miguel del Padrón lo convirtieron en su mascota, alojándolo en las naves donde se estacionaban los ómnibus.

Su dieta no fue común como la de los animales de su clase, pues desayunaba en el paradero de la ruta 10 café con leche, pan con mantequilla, y a la hora del almuerzo y comida comía frijoles negros, arroz y bistec con papas fritas además de tomar cerveza y masticar tabaco.

Durante una manifestación frente al Palacio Presidencial a donde lo habían llevado como mascota política, la policía batistiana detuvo a Perico el cual murió el 13 de septiembre de 1944, a causa de una severa paliza que le propinaron por alterar el orden público.

Tal fue el cariño hacia el animal que se efectuó una colecta de dinero para embalsamarlo y de este modo el histórico cadáver de Perico se mantuvo durante muchos años en las oficinas de este paradero.

Hoy el cuerpo disecado del Chivo Perico se expone en el Museo Municipal de San Miguel del Padrón como ícono del municipio y símbolo de luchas revolucionarias.

Today the dissected body of the Chivo Perico is exhibited in the Municipal Museum of San Miguel del Padrón as an icon of the municipality and a symbol of revolutionary struggles.
