Alberto Tosca Sánchez nació en La Habana el 12 de marzo de 1955 y fue un compositor y guitarrista cubano, miembro de la corriente de la Nueva Canción en Cuba, perteneciente a la segunda generación de la Nueva Trova.

Desde temprana edad inició estudios de canto, guitarra clásica, percusión cubana, piano complementario, armonía, contrapunto y fuga. En 1978 ingresó en el movimiento de la Nueva Trova. Alberto Tosca perteneció al centro Nacional de Música de Conciertos, como productor musical y arreglista y catalogado por la Comisión Nacional de Evaluación Técnica con un nivel de artista-técnico de primer nivel, primera categoría.

Se graduó de música y canto en el Conservatorio de Superación Profesional Ignacio Cervantes, donde realizó estudios de canto, guitarra clásica, percusión cubana, piano complementario, armonía, contrapunto y fuga.

Desde el punto de vista literario tiene influencia del cubano José Martí, del estadounidense Walt Whitman y del español Juan Ramón Jiménez. En cuanto a lo musical, en la obra se nota el influjo de las canciones de Silvio Rodríguez, Joan Manuel Serrat, Amaury Pérez Vidal, Noel Nicola y Vicente Feliú, así como del beat, el rock, la rumba y de los más importantes tamboreros cubanos, y en algunas de las obras ha utilizado los tambores batá. Participó, junto al Grupo Manguaré y Rafael de la Torre, en el Festival Internacional de la Canción Política de Berlín (Alemania); posteriormente realizó una gira por Checoslovaquia.

Con la cantante Xiomara Laugart trabajó en la Isla de la Juventud, de cuya estancia se acercó al sucu-sucu, música originaria de esa región de Cuba.

Su obra autoral sobrepasa las setecientas canciones, de las cuales han interpretado artistas como:Tania Libertad, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Carlos Santana. Ha compuesto a cuatro manos con el guitarrista y compositor Peter Frampton, actual guitarrista del ex-Beatles Ringo Star.
Entre sus canciones más reconocidas están «Paria (Canción a un viejo trovador)», «Sembrando para ti» y «Ni un ya no estás».

Fue miembro del Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, Inc. (LARAS), en la ciudad de Los Ángeles (California).

Falleció en La Habana el 14 de agosto de 2018 a los 63 años a consecuencia de una insuficiencia renal.

Alberto Tosca Sánchez was born in Havana on March 12, 1955, and was a Cuban composer and guitarist, a member of the New Song stream in Cuba, belonging to the second generation of Nueva Trova.

From an early age, he began singing, classical guitar, Cuban percussion, complementary piano, harmony, counterpoint and fugue studies. In 1978 he joined the Nueva Trova movement. Alberto Tosca belonged to the National Center for Concert Music, as a musical producer and arranger and cataloged by the National Commission of Technical Evaluation with a level of first-level artist-technician, first category.

He graduated in music and singing at the Ignacio Cervantes Conservatory of Professional Development, where he studied singing, classical guitar, Cuban percussion, complementary piano, harmony, counterpoint, and escape.

From the literary point of view, it has the influence of the Cuban José Martí, the American Walt Whitman and the Spanish Juan Ramón Jiménez. As for the musical, the work shows the influence of the songs of Silvio Rodríguez, Joan Manuel Serrat, Amaury Pérez Vidal, Noel Nicola, and Vicente Feliú, as well as the beat, rock, rumba and the most important drummers Cubans, and in some of the works, he has used batá drums. He participated, together with Grupo Manguaré and Rafael de la Torre, in the International Festival of Political Song in Berlin (Germany); later he toured Czechoslovakia.

With the singer Xiomara Laugart, he worked in the Isle of Youth, from whose stay he approached the sucu-sucu, music that originated in that region of Cuba.

His authorial work surpasses the seven hundred songs, of which they have interpreted artists like Tania Libertad, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Carlos Santana. He has composed four hands with guitarist and composer Peter Frampton, current guitarist of the former Beatles Ringo Star.
Among his most recognized songs are «Paria (Song to an old troubadour)», «Sowing for you» and «Not one you are no longer».

He was a member of the Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, Inc. (LARAS), in the city of Los Angeles (California).

He died in Havana on August 14, 2018, at age 63 due to kidney failure.
