ABRE SUS PUERTAS EN CUBA HOTEL DEDICADO A LA COMUNIDAD LGBT+ .
El Hotel Gran Muthu Rainbow, primero en Cuba dedicado al segmento de la comunidad LGBT+, será inaugurado en Playa Playuelas, Cayo Guillermo, el próximo 5 de diciembre, informaron este lunes medios locales.
Con categoría cinco estrellas, la instalación situada en la central provincia de Ciego de Ávila cuenta con 248 habitaciones, tres bares y cinco restaurantes especializados en cocina asiática, cubana, internacional, gourmet y buffet, respectivamente.
El director corporativo de Muthu Hotels en Cuba, Rafael López, declaró que la apertura de ese resort responde al interés de la cadena por diversificar su oferta en la Isla. López dijo, además, que el personal que trabajará en el Rainbow recibió un programa de capacitación con el objetivo de crear «un entorno mucho más inclusivo» para los turistas que se hospedarán en el nuevo complejo.
Este es el tercer nuevo hotel bajo administración de la cadena asiática MGM Muthu Hotels en Jardines del Rey –archipiélago al norte de Ciego de Ávila– gracias a los negocios que mantiene con el grupo estatal cubano de turismo Gaviota.
A menos de un mes de su inauguración, el nuevo hotel fue colocado en la lista de entidades sancionadas por el gobierno de Estados Unidos en Cuba, junto al Gran Hotel Bristol Kempinski, el Grand Aston Varadero Resort, el Grand Aston Cayo Las Brujas Beach Resort and Spa, que se encuentra en el Cayo Las Brujas; y el Gran Muthu Imperial Hotel.
El presidente estadounidense, Donald Trump, creó esta «lista negra» en junio de 2018 para prohibir las transacciones de ciudadanos estadounidenses con empresas «bajo el control o que actúan en nombre» de los servicios militares, de inteligencia y de seguridad de Cuba, de acuerdo al Departamento de Estado.
Su primer resort en ese destino turístico, uno de los preferidos por el turismo que visita la Isla, fue el Gran Muthu Cayo Guillermo, reconocido por su elevado estándar en la modalidad de “todo incluido”.
En enero de 2019, la cadena inauguró el Gran Muthu Imperial, que ofrece un producto turístico sólo para adultos. Los tres hoteles de MGM Muthu Hotels en Jardines del Rey son de categoría cinco estrellas.
El anuncio de la apertura de un nuevo hotel dedicado exclusivamente a la comunidad LGBT+ en Cuba ocurrió en mayo, en la misma semana que debía suceder el desfile oficial contra la homofobia en La Habana, que a la postre fue suspendido. Aunque activistas de esa comunidad lo realizaron de manera independiente y fue interrumpido por la policía.
Otro hotel dirigido a la comunidad LGBT+ abrirá sus puertas en La Habana a fines de 2020. Perteneciente a la cadena española Axel Hotels, la futura instalación estará situada en el emblemático ‘Hotel Telégrafo’, una edificación ubicada en el Paseo del Prado del centro histórico habanero, en las cercanías del Capitolio, el Gran Teatro «Alicia Alonso» y el Hotel Inglaterra.
El Axel Hotel Telégrafo La Habana tendrá categoría de 4 estrellas y 63 habitaciones, además de servicios como restaurante, spa, bares en la terraza, piscina o solárium.

The Grand Muthu Rainbow Hotel, first in Cuba dedicated to the segment of the LGBT+ community, will be inaugurated in Playa Playuelas, Cayo Guillermo, on December 5, local media reported Monday.
With a five-star category, the facility located in the central province of Ciego de Ávila has 248 rooms, three bars and five restaurants specializing in Asian, Cuban, international, gourmet and buffet cuisine, respectively.
The corporate director of Muthu Hotels in Cuba, Rafael López, said that the opening of that resort responds to the chain’s interest in diversifying its offer on the Island. López said, in addition, that the personnel who will work at the Rainbow received a program of training with the aim of creating “a much more inclusive environment” for tourists who will be staying at the new complex.
This is the third new hotel under management of the Asian MGM Muthu Hotels chain in Jardines del Rey –archipelago north of Ciego de Avila– thanks to the business it maintains with the Cuban state tourism group Gaviota.
Less than a month after its inauguration, the new hotel was placed on the list of entities sanctioned by the United States government in Cuba, next to the Grand Hotel Bristol Kempinski, the Grand Aston Varadero Resort, the Grand Aston Cayo Las Brujas Beach Resort and Spa, which is located in Cayo Las Brujas; and the Grand Muthu Imperial Hotel.
US President Donald Trump created this “blacklist” in June 2018 to ban transactions of US citizens with companies “under control or acting on behalf” of Cuba’s military, intelligence and security services, according to the State Department.
Its first resort in that tourist destination, one of the favorites for tourists visiting the Island, was the Gran Muthu Cayo Guillermo, recognized for its high standard in the “all-inclusive” modality.
In January 2019, the chain inaugurated the Grand Muthu Imperial, which offers a tourist product for adults only. The three MGM Muthu Hotels hotels in Jardines del Rey are a five-star category.
The announcement of the opening of a new hotel dedicated exclusively to the LGBT + community in Cuba occurred in May, in the same week that the official parade against homophobia in Havana was to happen, which was eventually suspended. Although activists from that community performed independently and were interrupted by the police.
Another hotel aimed at the LGBT+ community will open its doors in Havana at the end of 2020. Belonging to the Spanish chain Axel Hotels, the future facility will be located in the emblematic ‘Hotel Telegrafo’, a building located on the Paseo del Prado in the historic center Havana, near the Capitol, the Grand Theater «Alicia Alonso» and the Hotel Inglaterra.
