DOS LIBROS QUE ENALTECEN LA MEMORIA DE NUESTRO HEROE NACIONAL.
Han salido al mercado internacional, dos libros que enaltecen a nuestro eterno Apostol Nacional José Martí.
“Martí’s Song for Freedom” (Martí y sus versos por la libertad), es el nombre del libro ilustrado en formato bilingüe de la escritora estadounidense Emma Otheguy, que narra la vida y obra del político, ensayista, poeta, pensador y héroe nacional de Cuba.
La historia del revolucionario que luchó por la independencia de su país y dejó un importante legado político para los pueblos de América Latina, fue plasmada en estrofas con versos de Martí intercalados para ilustrar los pasajes biográficos.
En el texto, la autora destaca el compromiso de Martí con la lucha revolucionaria y no reprime pasajes dolorosos como el encarcelamiento del líder, el trabajo forzado al que fue sometido, o su muerte en batalla.
“En los esclavos, José reconoció almas como la suya, almas que merecían ser libres”, escribe Otheguy.
El libro está acompañado de ilustraciones con tonos opacos que le dan un toque nostálgico y folclórico al relato.
“José Martí contribuyó a la liberación de Cuba y a todos nos dejó sus versos sencillos, que cantan al ritmo de las palmas reales, y evocarán para siempre la libertad”, escribe en la estrofa final.
La segunda obra infantil inspirada por Martí es “The Epic Fail” of Arturo Zamora de Pablo Cartaya. Relata la historia de un joven que vive en un edificio de apartamentos en Miami, EE.UU., con casi toda la familia en un ambiente sin rencores ni conflictos.
El “tío Frank” y su hija Carmen llegan desde España y la joven causa en el protagonista una sensación “como si se le estuvieran quemando las entrañas”.
Carmen está interesada la obra de Martí, por lo que Arturo pretende que escribe poesía para agradar a la joven. Su abuela para ayudarlo le entrega una caja con cartas de su abuelo, que tienen numerosas referencias a la vida y obra de Martí.
Dos obras dignas de nuestra atencion, mas aun hoy cuando se olvida en ocasiones nuestro compromiso con nuestra responsabilidad nacional para honrar a su memoria. Nuestro José Martí para los cubanos y como ejemplo para los pueblos oprimidos.
TWO BOOKS THAT PRAISE TO OUR NATIONAL HEROE.
Two books that exalt our National Apostle Jose Marti have gone on the intellectual market, both nationally and internationally.
“Martí’s Song for Freedom”, is the name of the illustrated book in bilingual format of the American writer Emma Otheguy, which tells the life and work of the politician, essayist, poet, thinker and national hero of Cuba.
The story of the revolutionary who fought for the independence of his country and left an important political legacy for the peoples of Latin America, was embodied in stanzas with Marti verses interspersed to illustrate the biographical passages.
In the text, the author highlights Martí’s commitment to the revolutionary struggle and does not repress painful passages such as the leader’s imprisonment, forced labor to which he was subjected, or his death in battle.
“In slaves, Joseph recognized souls like his, souls that deserved to be free,” writes Otheguy.
The book is accompanied by illustrations with opaque tones that give a nostalgic and folkloric touch to the story.
“José Martí contributed to the liberation of Cuba and left us all his simple verses, which sing to the rhythm of royal palms, and will evoke freedom forever,” he writes in the final stanza.
The second children’s work inspired by Martí is “The Epic Fail” of Arturo Zamora by Pablo Cartaya. It tells the story of a young man who lives in an apartment building in Miami, USA, with almost the whole family in an environment without grudges or conflicts.
“Uncle Frank” and his daughter Carmen arrive from Spain and the young cause in the protagonist a feeling “as if they were burning his entrails.”
Carmen is interested in Martí’s work, so Arturo intends to write poetry to please the young woman. His grandmother to help him hands him a box with letters from his grandfather, who have numerous references to the life and work of Marti.
Two works worthy of our attention, even more so when our commitment to our national responsibility is sometimes forgotten to honor his memory. Our José Martí for the Cubans and as an example for the oppressed peoples.
