Muchos cubanos no saben que existe en nuestra la bella isla un paraíso terrenal y se encuentra justo en el macizo montañoso del centro del pais y se llama “El Nicho” y es uno de los parajes más bellos de la geografía cubana.

Para llegar a él puede tomarse la carretera que une a las localidades de Cumanayagua, en la provincia de Cienfuegos, con la de Manicaragua, en Villa Clara, y a “poco andar”, como gustan decir los campesinos, comienza el ascenso. Hay que pasar el asentamiento El Jovero, célebre por acoger al destacado grupo de teatro Los Elementos, y el de Crucecitas, en el corazón mismo del lomerío. A partir de ahí comienza el descenso porque El Nicho, precisamente, es un hueco rodeado de montañas.

Antes de llegar a la comunidad del mismo nombre, la cual acoge a unos 390 serranos, la vista comienza a deleitarse con el cauce de un río de aguas cristalinas que atraviesa la vía y nace bien arriba de las lomas. Justo ahí inicia un sendero lleno de extraordinaria belleza natural, no solo por la presencia del torrente acuífero, sino también por la vegetación diversa y virgen y la variedad de la fauna. La temperatura es muy agradable.

Muchos conocedores de la zona y otras partes de Cuba que lo han visitado califican a “El Nicho” como uno de los parajes más bellos de Cuba y una maravilla de la Naturaleza y les sobran razones.

Está ubicado a unos 30 kilómetros de Topes de Collantes y a solo dos del lago Hanabanilla. Forma parte del Refugio de Fauna Laguna de Guanaroca─Yaguanabo─El Nicho, ubicado en el Parque Guanayara, perteneciente al macizo montañoso de Guamuhaya, mas conocido como la Sierra del Escambray, donde tantas batallas por la libertad de Cuba se libraron hasta apenas hace un poco más de 50 años. Tiene una extensión de 60 km² y cuenta con más de 65 especies de plantas endémicas.

Ese espacio natural es excepcional por poseer especies únicas en el país, además de contar con ricos accidentes topográficos y formaciones tanto vegetales como geomorfológicas que le otorgan a la zona un protagonismo en el macizo que se hace necesario preservar para el presente y las futuras generaciones.

Gracias a puentes rústicos con barandas de madera rolliza, el ascenso por el sendero se hace menos complicado hasta llegar a un mirador que permite contemplar varios kilómetros a la redonda. Precisamente, en ese lugar se encuentran las cascadas del arroyo ‘El Negro’, donde el agua se precipita desde más de 30 metros de altura e impacta contra las rocas, formando torbellinos de espuma que dan al ambiente una persistente neblina.

Durante el recorrido, además de observar un bellísimo paisaje y deleitarse con él, es posible también disfrutar del baño en varias pocetas de aguas cristalinas y fondos azulados.

El Nicho es un gran regalo de la Naturaleza a nuestra bella y sufrida isla.

During the tour, in addition to observing a beautiful landscape and reveling in it, it is also possible to enjoy the bath in several pots of crystalline waters and bluish backgrounds.

El Nicho is a great gift from Nature to our beautiful and suffered island.
