‘Chico y Rita’, una animada historia de amor de la vida real impregnada de jazz.
La película cuenta la historia entre dos figurados amantes que en la vida real serian nuestro famoso pianista “Bebo” Valdes (en el film como “Chico” Valdés) y la atractiva cantante tambien cubana Rita Montaner, ambos marcados por la música de entonces. Está ambientada en las ciudades de La Habana, París y Nueva York en la que se realiza un homenaje al jazz latino, al cine de Hollywood de las décadas de 1940/1950 y al maestro Bebo Valdés que falleció hace unos años en Europa. Entre las películas que se homenajean se encuentran Casablanca, El padrino (película) y las de Woody Allen.
PENSEMOS EN LA HABANA de 1946, dibujada con pluma y tinta, autos antiguos rugiendo por calles tropicales que son todas horizontales y un derroche de color. Un joven pianista de jazz llamado Chico no tiene un concierto esta noche, así que está en la ciudad yendo a los clubes. Ahí es cuando ve por primera vez a Rita, acercándose a un foco de luz, cerrando los ojos y ronroneando “Besame Mucho” en un micrófono…

The film tells the story between two figurative lovers who in real life would be our famous pianist “Bebo” Valdes (in the film as “Chico” Valdés) and the attractive Cuban singer Rita Montaner, both marked by the music of the time. It is set in the cities of Havana, Paris, and New York in which a tribute is made to Latin jazz, Hollywood cinema from the 1940s / 1950s, and the maestro Bebo Valdés who died a few years ago in Europe. Among the films that are honored are Casablanca, The Godfather (film), and those of Woody Allen.
THINK OF HAVANA in 1946, drawn in pen and ink, vintage cars roaring through tropical streets that are all horizontal and a riot of color. That’s when he first sees Rita, approaching a spotlight, closing her eyes, and purring “Besame Mucho” into a microphone …
