Jorge Mas Canosa nació en Santiago de Cuba un 21 de septiembre de 1939 y fue un activista cubanoamericano mejor conocido por su fuerte oposición a Fidel Castro y su liderazgo de la Fundación Nacional Cubano Americana.
En su juventud pertenece a AJEF la juventud masónica donde fue líder. Estudió en el colegio privado Juan Bautista Sagarra (Académia Semi Militar) donde se destaco. En 1957 se fue a estudiar a Estados Unidos (Presbyterian Junior College of North Carolina) por el peligro real de la juventud cubana, aun cuando su padre era Capitán / Veterinario del Ejercito de entonces, una persona pacífica, decente y recto militar. Cuando regresó a Cuba en 1959 fue a la Universidad de Oriente para continuar sus estudios; desde ese momento comenzó a conspirar contra el gobierno de Castro pero pudo escapar a Estados Unidos.
Muchos cubanos entonces lo consideraban la figura principal de la comunidad de exiliados cubanos en Miami, Florida. Canosa se ofreció como voluntario cuando era joven para luchar en la infructuosa invasión de Bahía de Cochinos en 1961, poco después de que Castro tomara el control político de Cuba pero no llego a desembarcar al pertenecer a los grupos armados que iban a entrar por la Provincia de Oriente.
En Estados Unidos sus esfuerzos fueron fundamentales para la creación de Radio Martí, trasmisiones a la Isla de Cuba desde territorio estadounidense que con bastante efectividad el gobierno de la isla ha podido interferir, aunque se oye en varias regiones cubanas.
Jorge Mas murió enla ciudad de Miami el 23 noviembre de 1997. Está enterrado en Woodlawn Park Cemetery (ahora Caballero Rivero Woodlawn North Park Cemetery and Mausoleum).
En Miami se construyó una escuela y se nombró en homenaje. Una calle fue nombrada en su honor.
Sus padres fueron el Dr. Ramón Mas Cayado y Josefa de Carmen Canosa Aguilera y sus hermanos fueron Nancy, Ramón, Ricardo y Raúl Mas-Canosa.
Estaba casado con Irma Santos-Espronceda y tenían tres hijos; Juan Carlos, José Ramón y Jorge Mas-Santos.
