Se ha anunciado una nueva medida que involucra a la principal agencia de transferencias de remesas de cubanos a sus familias en Cuba. Estoy seguro que los cubanos buscarán y encontrarán otras vías para seguir ayudando a sus parientes en la Isla.

Mi opinión en contra de lo que pueda afectar directamente a las familias, y a favor de la unidad de la familia en la Isla y en la Diáspora, es bien conocida desde hace décadas.

Por eso no me detendré en ese aspecto del asunto sino que quiero profundizar hacia sus raíces y causas fundamentales.

Considero que las causas fundamentales radican principalmente en estos cuatro factores interrelacionados, entre otros:

1. Los salarios insuficientes que el gobierno cubano paga a los trabajadores del sector estatal.

2. El modelo económico impuesto es ineficiente y la productividad es insuficiente para poder aumentar esos salarios o reevaluar la moneda cubana sin crear inflación.

3. La devaluación de la moneda nacional, es decir el peso cubano, cuyo poder adquisitivo ha disminuido de forma crítica.

4. El Estado cubano paga en esa moneda nacional devaluada y vende los principales alimentos, aseos y artículos del hogar en moneda libremente convertible que vienen precisamente por remesas de familiares.

La solución sería que estas cuatro causas fueran rectificadas y que se transitara ágilmente hacia una economía social de mercado. Ello supone la atención a los sectores más vulnerables. Que se liberaran las fuerzas productivas del país mediante la libertad de empresa, la garantía para la propiedad privada y cooperativa y la libertad de comercio interior y exterior por parte de todos los cubanos, incluidos los que conforman la comunidad cubana en la Diáspora.

Estas son las salidas reales y definitivas desde el punto de vista socio-económico.

Sin embargo, existe otra dimensión más profunda y de inconmensurable impacto antropológico y social, que puede afectar la educación laboral de las nuevas generaciones, desfigurar el carácter emprendedor de la cultura cubana y durar mucho más que lo que duren las transformaciones que hemos mencionado.

Esa dimensión deformante y duradera es seguir perdiendo el sentido, el valor y la dignidad del trabajo de los cubanos, sustituyendo con la dependencia de las remesas lo que debe ser cubierto con un salario real, digno, suficiente y con un valor adquisitivo a la altura de las necesidades siempre crecientes de los cubanos.

Vivir solo de las remesas de forma permanente y sistemática es inmoral porque acostumbra a los cubanos a vivir del trabajo ajeno, y a acostumbrarse a que la prosperidad de su vida personal y familiar depende de la generosidad de personas que viven fuera, trabajan con el sudor de su frente y comparten, muchas veces de lo que no les sobra, lo devengado como fruto de su sacrificio diario.

Pero ya lo hemos dicho, no es por aquella “vagancia” voluntaria ni por la falta de vergüenza de los que no quieren trabajar. Se trata de vivir en un sistema cuyo trabajo no tiene productividad, cuyos salarios no alcanzan para nada, cuya moneda se ha devaluado y cuyos mercados venden en una moneda extranjera con la que no se paga el mísero salario.

Ahora los cubanos, una vez más, discutimos y nos dividimos por las consecuencias sin ir directamente a las causas. Vayamos a la raíz del problema: llevamos más de 60 años con un modelo socio-económico “que no funciona ni para nosotros mismos” y ese modelo no se ha cambiado por motivos políticos. No se quiere perder el control estatal sobre la vida de los cubanos y no se quiere liberar total y estructuralmente las fuerzas productivas.

Continúan los subterfugios para acotar y bloquear el carácter emprendedor de los cubanos que, poco a poco, sin darnos cuenta, pero de forma dramática, vamos perdiendo el sentido del trabajo y dejamos que nuestro proyecto de vida dependa de las remesas porque no podemos, no nos dejan, empoderarnos, ni crear riqueza, ni invertir, ni exportar de forma independiente.

Identifiquemos dónde están las trabas internas, exijamos que cada cubano pueda depender de su propio trabajo, y no nos estemos dividiendo por medidas externas cuando la causa está dentro de Cuba y nos toca solamente a los cubanos, de dentro y de fuera, resolver nuestros propios problemas.

Estoy seguro que si esas transformaciones y cambios estructurales se realizaran de forma rápida y ordenada con el protagonismo de los cubanos, no dependeremos de las remesas y no se dividirán nuestras familias por razones políticas, ideológicas o por el lugar de residencia.

Estoy a favor de todo lo que una a la familia cubana, de todo lo que pueda ayudarla, de todo lo que signifique relaciones familiares abiertas, estables y sin bloqueos, pero eso solo se logrará cambiando lo que ha demostrado ser improductivo, insuficiente y deformante.

Eso no depende de las remesas, depende de que la economía, el trabajo, el salario real, la moneda y la libertad de empresa se liberen de los bloqueos internos, y eso nos liberará de los bloqueos externos. Ambos perjudican a las familias cubanas pero no confundamos las consecuencias con las causas.

Hay que ir a la raíz del problema y resolverlo.

A new measure has been announced involving the main remittance transfer agency from Cubans to their families in Cuba. I am sure that Cubans will seek and find other ways to continue helping their relatives on the island.

My opinion against what could directly affect families, and in favor of family unity on the Island and in the Diaspora, has been well known for decades.

That is why I will not dwell on that aspect of the matter but I want to delve into its roots and fundamental causes.

I believe that the root causes lie mainly in these four interrelated factors, among others:

1. The insufficient wages that the Cuban government pays to workers in the state sector.

2. The economic model imposed is inefficient and productivity is insufficient to be able to increase those wages or revalue the Cuban currency without creating inflation.

3. The devaluation of the national currency, that is, the Cuban peso, whose purchasing power has declined critically.

4. The Cuban State pays in that devalued national currency and sells the main food, toilets, and household items in a freely convertible currency that comes precisely from family remittances.

The solution would be for these four causes to be rectified and to move swiftly towards a social market economy. This supposes attention to the most vulnerable sectors. That the productive forces of the country be liberated through the freedom of business, the guarantee of private and cooperative property, and the freedom of internal and foreign trade by all Cubans, including those who make up the Cuban community in the Diaspora.

These are the real and definitive solutions from the socio-economic point of view.

However, there is another dimension that is deeper and has an immeasurable anthropological and social impact, which can affect the job education of new generations, disfigure the entrepreneurial character of Cuban culture and last much longer than the transformations that we have mentioned last.

This deforming and lasting dimension is to continue losing the meaning, value, and dignity of Cubans’ work, substituting dependence on remittances for what must be covered with a real, decent and sufficient salary and with a purchasing value to match. of the ever-growing needs of Cubans.

Living only on remittances permanently and systematically is immoral because it accustoms Cubans to living off of someone else’s work, and to getting used to the fact that the prosperity of their personal and family life depends on the generosity of people who live abroad, work with the sweat of their forehead and share, many times what they do not have, what they have earned as a result of their daily sacrifice.

But we have already said, it is not because of that voluntary “laziness” or because of the lack of shame of those who do not want to work. It is about living in a system whose work has no productivity, whose salaries are not enough, whose currency has been devalued, and whose markets sell in a foreign currency with which the paltry salary is not paid.

Now we Cubans, once again, argue and divide about the consequences without going directly to the causes. Let’s get to the root of the problem: we have had a socio-economic model for more than 60 years “that does not work even for ourselves” and that model has not been changed for political reasons. They do not want to lose state control over the lives of Cubans and they do not want to totally and structurally liberate the productive forces.

The subterfuges continue to limit and block the entrepreneurial character of Cubans who, little by little, without realizing it, but in a dramatic way, we are losing the meaning of work and we let our life project depend on remittances because we cannot, no They leave us, empower us, neither create wealth, nor invest, nor export independently.

Let us identify where the internal obstacles are, let us demand that each Cuban can depend on his own work, and we are not dividing ourselves by external measures when the cause is within Cuba and it is only up to Cubans, from within and without, to resolve our own problems.

I am sure that if these transformations and structural changes were carried out quickly and in an orderly manner with the Cuban leadership, we will not depend on remittances and our families will not be divided for political, ideological reasons or because of the place of residence.

I am in favor of everything that unites the Cuban family, of everything that can help it, of everything that means open, stable, and unblocked family relationships, but that will only be achieved by changing what has proven to be unproductive, insufficient, and deforming.

That does not depend on remittances, it depends on the economy, work, real wages, currency, and freedom of business being freed from internal blockages, and that will free us from external blockages. Both harm Cuban families, but let’s not confuse the consequences with the causes.

You have to go to the root of the problem and solve it.
