Alejandro García Villalón was born in Havana, Cuba, on January 5, 1955, he is known simply as ‘Virulo’, he is a Cuban humorist and singer-songwriter, apart from being a founding member of the Nueva Trova Cubana.

During his high school period – before dedicating himself entirely to humor – he was a member of a rock and roll band called “the Sioux.”

In 1972 – at 17 years of age – he began his artistic-professional career as a founding member of the Nueva Trova Cubana, along with Silvio Rodríguez, Pablo Milanés, and Noel Nicola.

He entered the Architecture career at CUJAE, from which he graduated in 1981.

He has been a host, scriptwriter, and director of television programs and theater groups, as well as a composer of some films and cartoons.

He directed the National Theater Ensemble in Havana. He was director of the National Ensemble of Shows of Cuba and the National Center for the Promotion of Humor.

At the end of the 1980s, he settled in Mexico City, the country where he has resided since 2008, alternating his stays in Cuba.

His talent has been recognized throughout America and Spain. Virulo, also known by the name of Alejandro García, is a singer-songwriter from Havana discovered by the Nueva Trova Cubana, who has found in humor the ideal tool for the expression of his art and ideas, often peppered with social criticism and questions to history.

Alejandro García Villalón nació en La Habana, Cuba, el 5 de enero de 1955, es conocido simplemente como ‘Virulo’,​ es un humorista y cantautor cubano, aparte de ser miembro fundador de la Nueva Trova Cubana.

Durante su período de secundaria ―antes de dedicarse enteramente al humor―, fue miembro de una banda de rock and roll llamada «los Sioux».​

En 1972 ―a los 17 años de edad― inició su carrera artístico-profesional como miembro fundador de la Nueva Trova Cubana, junto a Silvio Rodríguez, Pablo Milanés y Noel Nicola.

Ingresó en la carrera de Arquitectura en la CUJAE, de la que se graduó en 1981.​

Ha sido conductor, guionista y director de programas televisivos y grupos de teatro, además de compositor de algunas películas y dibujos animados.

Dirigió el Conjunto Nacional del Teatro en La Habana. Fue director del Conjunto Nacional de Espectáculos de Cuba y del Centro Nacional de Promoción del Humor.​

A finales de la década de los 80 se establece en Ciudad de México, país donde reside desde el año 2008, alternando su estancias en Cuba.

Su talento ha sido reconocido en toda América y España. Virulo, también conocido por el nombre de Alejandro García, es un cantautor de la Habana descubierto por la Nueva Trova Cubana, que ha encontrado en el humor la herramienta idónea para la expresión de su arte y sus ideas, salpicadas muchas veces de crítica social y cuestionamientos a la historia.
