The “Orquesta Aragón” is a Cuban musical band formed on 30 September 1939, by Orestes Aragón Cantero in Cienfuegos, Cuba. Though they did not create the Cha-cha-cha, they were arguably the best charanga in Cuba during the 1950s and 1960s. Their trade-marks included high-class instrumentalists playing in tight ensemble style, and rhythmical innovations which kept their sound up to date.

This year the prestigious Cuban Orchestra received the 2020 Latin Grammy award in the category of Traditional Tropical Album for its album Icon, produced by the Puntilla Music label, with which the group celebrates its 80th anniversary.

La “Orquesta Aragón” es una banda musical cubana formada el 30 de septiembre de 1939 por Orestes Aragón Cantero en Cienfuegos, Cuba. Durante una transmisión en vivo realizada por el Ministerio de Cultura cubano el director de la Aragón, Rafael Lay, dedicó el premio “a todos los músicos que han formado parte de la orquesta y al personal de la salud que combate la epidemia del nuevo coronavirus”.

El galardón a la Grabación del Año se lo llevó el español Alejandro Sanz con el disco Contigo, mientras Residente, exintegrante de Calle 13, fue galardonado con la Canción del Año por “René” y la mexicana Natalia Lafourdade obtuvo en Álbum del Año con “Un Canto Por México Vol.1”.
