Osvaldo Farrés was born in Quemado de Guines, Las Villas Province in Cuba on January 13, 1903. He was a Cuban songwriter and composer best known for having written the songs “Quizás, Quizás, Quizás”, “Acercate Mas”, “En El Mar”, and “Tres Palabras.”
Although unable to read or write music, he became a prolific and world-renowned composer. His songs include “Quizás, Quizás, Quizás”, “Acercate Mas”, “Tres Palabras”, “Toda Una Vida” and his own favorite “Madrecita” written in honor of his mother and sung to this day in Latin America on Mother’s Day.
Together with his parents, he traveled to Havana and began to work at the La Polar Beer Factory, where he became head of the advertising department. Later he began working on the radio with animation activities that later came to television where he directed a space that became unforgettable Bar Melódico de Farrés, which marked a milestone in Cuban television.

Nat King Cole sings “Three Words”
By 1940 Farres had entered Hollywood by the door wide open when his bolero ‘Come closer’ (Acercate Mas) was the subject of a film that played Esther Williams and Van Johnson.
It was 1947 when the Mexican singer Chela Campos asks the Cuban Osvaldo Farres to compose a song for her. Farres refuses, hesitates, does not feel sufficiently motivated. But Mexico does not give up. Stresses. Come, Master, if three words we do a song, she says, and Farres accepts the challenge. He composed the song asks Chela Campos and precisely titled thus: ‘Three words’.
Since 1950 he was an eminent member of the Paris Society of Authors, Composers and Publishers of Music (SACEM). Osvaldo Farrés, was a composer who created a variety of music. He began with a guaracha entitled “Mis Cinco Hijos” and that was his first composition in 1937.

In 1942, by unanimous agreement of the 15 Councilors that constituted the Quemado de Güines city council and endorsed by the Municipal Mayor Dr. Armando Pérez Arrieta was named Favorite son of Quemado de Güines, festivals were held whose proceeds would be destined to the construction of a hospital of Maternity. Farrés invited numerous artists including Germán Pinelli, Obdulia Breijo, Rosita Fornés to cooperate with the success of the festival.
In 1962, Farrés and his wife, Fina del Peso Farrés, left Cuba. They never returned.
He died in West New York, New Jersey, in 1985.

Junto a sus padres viajó a La Habana y comenzó a trabajar en la Fábrica de Cerveza La Polar, donde se convirtió en jefe del departamento de publicidad. Posteriormente comenzó a trabajar en la radio con actividades de animación que luego llegaron a la televisión donde dirigió un espacio que se convirtió en inolvidable Bar Melódico de Farrés, que marcó un hito en la televisión cubana.
Para 1940 Farres había entrado en Hollywood por la puerta abierta de par en par cuando su bolero ‘Acércate’ (Acercate Mas) fue el tema de una película que interpretaba a Esther Williams y Van Johnson.
Fue en 1947 cuando la cantante mexicana Chela Campos le pide al cubano Osvaldo Farres que componga una canción para ella. Farres se niega, vacila, no se siente lo suficientemente motivado. Pero México no se rinde. Destaca. Ven, Maestro, si tres palabras hacemos una canción, dice, y Farres acepta el desafío. Compuso la canción que pide Chela Campos y la tituló precisamente así: ‘Tres palabras’.

El maestro de 1940, 1950 y 1960, en Cuba recibió entre muchos la orden de Carlos Manuel de Céspedes y un valioso diploma en pergamino de la Sociedad de Compositores y Artistas Mexicanos.
En 1942, por acuerdo unánime de los 15 Concejales que constituían el Ayuntamiento de Quemado de Güines y avalado por el Alcalde Municipal Dr. Armando Pérez Arrieta fue nombrado Hijo Predilecto de Quemado de Güines, se celebraron fiestas cuyos ingresos serían destinados a la construcción de un hospital de maternidad. Farrés invitó a numerosos artistas como Germán Pinelli, Obdulia Breijo, Rosita Fornés a colaborar con el éxito del festival.
En 1962, Farrés y su esposa, Fina del Peso Farrés, abandonaron Cuba. Ellos nunca regresaron.
Murió en West New York, Nueva Jersey, en 1985.
