AMAURY PÉREZ VIDAL, SINGER, COMPOSER, AND TELEVISION CONDUCTOR

Amaury Pérez Vidal was born in the Vedado neighborhood, Havana, on December 26, 1953, and is a composer, poet, guitarist, and singer. He is a founding member of the Nueva Trova Movement. His songs are close to jazz and pop, others mixed with rock music, and the most recent line of his creation is based on the style of the romantic song.

He is the son of two emblematic figures of Cuban Television, Amaury Pérez García and Consuelito Vidal. In 1969 he composed his first songs and after meeting Silvio Rodríguez, Pablo Milanés, Sara González, Noel Nicola in 1971, his composition was defined within the Nueva Trova style. In 1976 he won important recognition at the Dresden Pop Music Festival (Germany); He performs with the ICAIC Sound Experimentation Group, with Pablo Milanés and Sara González, a tour that includes Spain, Poland, and Bulgaria.

In 1978 he began to work with Grupo Síntesis, with which he participated in the Festival de la Canción Varadero ’81, and later with it he toured Venezuela, Mexico, and Spain.

In 1979, with Ricardo Martínez (Eddy), he formed his first accompanying group; later he founded another. As accompanying musicians in his recordings, countless Cuban artists and musicians have participated.

He returned to Mexico to perform at the Amado Nervo Cultural Festival, in Tepic, Nayarit, where in addition to interpreting her hits, she shared anecdotes with the public. ‘Bardo’ is the name of the album that she released in November 2009, which also includes a DVD and contains 13 songs, among them, I wanted to sing, Something of a woman and That I love myself.

En 1978 comienza a trabajar con el Grupo Síntesis, con el que participa en el Festival de la Canción Varadero ’81, y posteriormente con el mismo realiza una gira por Venezuela, México y España.

En 1998 viaja a España para presentar su disco ‘Amor difícil’, en la Sala Manuel de Falla de la Sociedad General de Autores y Editores de España. Comienza el nuevo milenio con energía y se divide entre múltiples presentaciones tanto nacionales como internacionales, principalmente en México. Continúa con la producción de nuevos materiales discográficos, entre los que se destacan Equilibrio donde abarca el género del blues, Solo en septiembre, un disco con múltiples facetas musicales y Algo en común donde incursiona con gran éxito en el género de la salsa.

En el 2003 realiza el disco Trovador, un trabajo creado con Silvio Rodríguez. En el 2004, el disco fue promocionado por varias partes del continente americano y España. El 31 de diciembre del 2003 fue condecorado por Fidel Castro, con la Orden Félix Varela, máximo galardón oficial de la cultura en Cuba. El 7 de octubre del año 2004 muere su madre, Consuelito Vidal, siendo este un terrible golpe en su vida personal.

Participó en el concierto Misa cubana a la Virgen del Cobre, en la Basílica de Santa María de Trastevere, en Roma, Italia, para celebrar el 70 aniversario del establecimiento de relaciones entre Cuba y El Vaticano.

En 2006 se presenta el disco ‘Los dúos’, donde se recopilan todas aquellas canciones que ha interpretado junto con varios de los más importantes interpretes de la canción cubana y latinoamericana.

En noviembre de 2007 se unió a los festejos por el 35 aniversario del movimiento de la Nueva Trova con varios conciertos, entre los que se destacaron Silvio Rodríguez, Vicente Feliú, Sara González y Pablo Milanés.

En septiembre de 2009, organizó y participó en el Concierto Paz Sin Fronteras, celebrado en la Plaza de la Revolución, el cual reunió a 1,1 millones de personas. Cantó dos canciones muy conocidas de su autoría, «Hacerte venir» y «Amor difícil».

Regresó a México para presentarse en el Festival Cultural Amado Nervo, en Tepic, Nayarit, donde además de interpretar sus éxitos, compartió anécdotas con el público. ‘Bardo’ es el nombre del disco que lanzó en noviembre de 2009, que incluye también un DVD y contiene 13 temas, entre ellos, Yo quería cantar, Algo de mujer y Que me quiera.

En la XV Feria Cubadisco 2011 obtuvo el Premio al Mejor Making off, realizado por Ángel Alderete.

Algunas de sus canciones son «Como en casa», «Y cuánto ha pasado», «Con dos que se quieran», «Cuando miro tus ojos», «Andes lo que andes», «Quisiera ser el viento», «Las noticias», «Vuela pena», «¿Quién sabe más?», «Acuérdate de abril» y muchas mas.

En cine, ha creado la música para la película ‘Hombres del mar’, dirigida por Manuel Herrera; ‘Isla de la Juventud’, dirigida por Juan Carlos Tabío; para la televisión cubana compuso los temas de Mañana es domingo, y el de la serie ‘Hasta el último aliento’, dirigida por Vicente González Castro; Muy personal con Amaury Pérez, bajo la dirección de Joel Valdés, y ‘Con dos que se quieran’, conducido por él.
