GLORIA ESTEFAN WILL PERFORM WITH ANDY GARCIA IN THE FILM ‘EL PADRE DE LA NOVIA’
The Cuban singer Gloria Estefan announced that she will participate in the Latin remake of the comedy ‘Father of the Bride’, which will star also Cuban Andy García.
“My answer was a resounding ‘YES’ when I received the invitation to accompany my good friend, the talented Andy García, in a new incarnation, full of humor, heart and a lot of flavors, of the classic film ‘Father of the bride'” Estefan said on his Facebook account, where he shared an image of both.
The renowned interpreter said that she greatly admires who will direct the film, the Mexican Gaz Alazraki, for whom she praised his popular 2013 comedy Nosotros Los Nobles.
“I’m very excited to participate and see how he brings this phenomenal Matt Lopez script to life,” she added.
According to the Deadline portal, Gloria Estefan would play the wife of Andy García, the bride’s parents, whose role will be played by the Puerto Rican and Guatemalan actress Adria Arjona, daughter of singer-songwriter Ricardo Arjona, and known for her performances in the series True Detective, Person of Interest and Good Omens.
The film tells the story of the patriarch of a Cuban-American family, who must face the decision of his daughter to marry.
In an official statement, Andy García, who will also serve as producer, said he was excited to join the cast of “a film that has brought so much joy for so many years and to represent my Cuban culture and heritage in this story.”
This Warner Bros romantic comedy is closer to the original film than the 90s version, starring American comedian Steve Martin, which had a sequel in 1995.
The first Father of the Bride dates from 1950 and was directed by Vicente Minnelli, starring Spencer Tracy, Elizabeth Taylor and Joan Bennett in the leading roles.

La cantante cubana Gloria Estefan anunció que participará en el remake latino de la comedia ‘Father of the Bride’ (El padre de la novia), que protagonizará el también cubano Andy García.
“Mi respuesta fue un ‘SI’ contundente al recibir la invitación para acompañar a mi buen amigo, el talentoso Andy García, en una nueva encarnación, llena de humor, corazón y mucho sabor, de la película clásica ‘Father of the bride'”, dijo Estefan en su cuenta de Facebook, donde compartió una imagen de ambos.
La reconocida intérprete dijo que admira mucho a quien dirigirá el filme, el mexicano Gaz Alazraki, del que alabó su popular comedia Nosotros Los Nobles, de 2013.
“Estoy muy entusiasmada de participar y ver cómo él le da vida a este guion fenomenal de Matt López”, añadió.
Según el portal Deadline, Gloria Estefan interpretaría a la esposa de Andy García, los padres de la novia, cuyo papel correrá a cargo de la actriz puertorriqueña y guatemalteca Adria Arjona, hija del cantautor Ricardo Arjona, y conocida por sus actuaciones en las series True Detective, Person of Interest y Good Omens.
La película cuenta la historia del patriarca de una familia cubanoamericana, quien debe enfrentarse a la decisión de su hija de contraer matrimonio.
En un comunicado oficial, Andy García, quien también fungirá como productor, dijo sentirse emocionado por unirse al elenco de “una película que ha traído tanta alegría durante tantos años y de representar a mi cultura y herencia cubana en esta historia”.
Esta una comedia romántica de la Warner Bros se acerca más a la película original que a la versión de los años 90, protagonizada por el comediante norteamericano Steve Martin, que tuvo una secuela en 1995.
La primera Father of the Bride data de 1950 y fue dirigida por Vicente Minnelli, con las actuaciones de Spencer Tracy, Elizabeth Taylor y Joan Bennett en los roles protagónicos.
