Cuban composer and pianist, the story of Maestro Tarraza is also the story of the beginnings and rise of the bolero as a musical form in Latin America.
Juan Bruno Tarraza was born in the city of Caibarien on October 6, 1917. In his hometown, he studied trumpet and later piano. In the early 1940s, he moved to Havana, and here he worked as a pianist in various nightclubs; In addition, he was the director of the Piedra orchestra, which accompanied those who appeared in the Supreme Court of Art, which was broadcast on the CMQ Circuit.

Throughout these two decades, several Aztec cinema films included songs of his composition; in others, the musical arrangements were his, while in some more he appeared, sitting at the piano, alone, playing it masterfully, or in the company of Felo Bergaza (1916-1969), another outstanding Cuban pianist, also a composer, with whom during several years he formed a formidable duet.

Juan Bruno Tarraza nace en la ciudad de Caibarien un 6 de Octubre de 1917. En su ciudad natal estudió trompeta y después piano. A principios de la década del 40 se trasladó para La Habana, y aquí trabajó como pianista en varios clubes nocturnos; además, fue director de la orquesta Piedra, que acompañaba a los que se presentaban en la Corte Suprema del Arte, que se trasmitía por el Circuito CMQ.

A lo largo de estas dos décadas varias películas del cine azteca incluyeron canciones de su composición; en otras, los arreglos musicales fueron suyos, mientras que en algunas más apareció, sentado al piano, solo, tocándolo magistralmente, o en compañía de Felo Bergaza (1916-1969), otro pianista cubano fuera de serie, también compositor, con quien durante varios años formó un dueto formidable.

Sus canciones aparecen en varios filmes mexicanos: “Palabras de mujer”, :Besar”, “¿Qué pasó, Merced?”, “En cada puerto un amor”, “Humo en los ojos”, “La venenosa y Pervertida”, “La rumbantela”, “Estoy tan enamorada”, “Soy feliz”, (el título del filme es parte del texto de esta canción), “La sospechosa”, “Alma libre”, “Cariñito cariñito”, “Qué bueno”, “Son las doce”, “Cómicos de la legua”, “Soy feliz”, “Flor de canela”, y “Rumba abierta”.
Fue orquestador de la música de los filmes: “El pecado de Laura” y “Yo soy muy macho”.
Como pianista, también se destacó en el cine, en las obras: “La sin ventura”, “Mi novio es un salvaje”, “Nocturno de amor” y “Ventarrón”.
A dúo con Felo Bergaza, apareció en las películas: “Flor de canela”, “Locos por la televisión”, y “Locura musical”.
Juan Bruno Tarraza, fallece en la Ciudad de Mexico el 23 de mayo de 2001.
