Rosalía Lourdes Elisa Palet Bonavia known as Rosita Fornes was a Cuban American singer and film actress born in New York on February 11, 1923. She was noted for her multifaceted career in the entertainment industry of Cuba. She worked in cinema, the theater, radio, television, and cabaret. She was part of the Golden Age of Mexican cinema.
Rosita Fornés moved to Cuba as a child. Her parents were immigrants from Spain. Her father was Catalan and her mother was from Madrid. They eventually divorced and her mother remarried when Fornés was approximately five. She took her stepfather’s name. When she was ten, the family moved to Spain, where they lived for three years before returning to Cuba.
ARTISTIC CAREER
Fornés made her stage debut in 1938 when she featured in the musical comedy “La Corte Suprema del Arte”. She subsequently appeared in two Cuban films before moving to Mexico, where she starred in several films during the Golden Age of Mexican cinema. These included “The Desire”, “Del can-can al mambo”, “Cara sucia”, and “Se acabaron las mujeres”.

Fornés was lauded for being one of the pioneers of Cuban television. Her versatility meant that she was able to perform in various areas of the Cuban entertainment industry. These include cinema, the theater, radio, television, and cabaret. She gave her final performance in 2019, one year before her death. It took place at a tribute concert for Meme Solis held at the Miami-Dade County Auditorium.
PERSONAL LIFE
Fornés’ first marriage was to Manuel Medel. They resided in Mexico and had one daughter together, Rosa María. She moved back to Havana in 1952 after they divorced. She subsequently married Armando Bianchi. They moved to Spain, where they worked for the Barcelona Comic Theater, the Madrid Theater, and the Alcázar Theater from 1957 until 1959 before he died in 1981.
Fornés died on June 10, 2020, at a hospital in the Miami metropolitan area. She was 97 and had suffered complications from emphysema.

Rosalía Lourdes Elisa Palet Bonavia conocida como Rosita Fornes fue una cantante y actriz de cine cubanoamericana nacida en Nueva York el 11 de febrero de 1923. Se destacó por su polifacética carrera en la industria del entretenimiento de Cuba. Trabajó en cine, teatro, radio, televisión y cabaret. Formó parte de la Edad de Oro del cine mexicano.
Rosita Fornés se mudó a Cuba cuando era niña. Sus padres eran inmigrantes de España. Su padre era catalán y su madre era madrileña. Finalmente se divorciaron y su madre se volvió a casar cuando Fornés tenía aproximadamente cinco años. Tomó el nombre de su padrastro. Cuando tenía diez años, la familia se mudó a España, donde vivieron durante tres años antes de regresar a Cuba.
CARRERA ARTÍSTICA
Fornés debutó en los escenarios en 1938 cuando participó en la comedia musical “La Corte Suprema del Arte”. Posteriormente apareció en dos películas cubanas antes de mudarse a México, donde protagonizó varias películas durante la Edad de Oro del cine mexicano. Estos incluyeron “El deseo”, “Del can-can al mambo”, “Cara sucia” y “Se acabaron las mujeres”.

VIDA PERSONAL
El primer matrimonio de Fornés fue con Manuel Medel. Residían en México y tenían una hija juntos, Rosa María. Regresó a La Habana en 1952 después de que se divorciaron. Posteriormente se casó con Armando Bianchi. Se trasladaron a España, donde trabajaron para el Teatro Cómic de Barcelona, el Teatro de Madrid y el Teatro Alcázar desde 1957 hasta 1959 antes de morir en 1981.
Fornés falleció el 10 de junio de 2020 en un hospital del área metropolitana de Miami. Tenía 97 años y había sufrido complicaciones por enfisema.
