Con sus hoteles casi vacíos, Iberostar inaugura un nuevo ‘oasis de lujo’ en Cuba. Se trata del Coral Level at Iberostar Selection Esmeralda, en Cayo Cruz, al norte de Camagüey.

A pesar de que en la Isla hay una dura situación económica, empeorada por la crisis sanitaria generada por la pandemia del Covid-19, la carencia de medicamentos, alimentos y productos de primera necesidad, la construcción de hoteles no se ha detenido.
La estatal Oficina Nacional de Estadísticas e Información (ONEI) publicó a inicios de septiembre —cuando Cuba llevaba al menos dos meses reportando las peores cifras de la pandemia y el sistema sanitario estaba colapsado— que las autoridades de la Isla habían invertido en el último semestre 57 veces más en Turismo que en Salud.
En concreto, los servicios empresariales, actividades inmobiliarias y de alquiler (categoría que incluye al Turismo) concentraron el 45,5% de la inversión total del Estado, frente a 3,1% dedicado al agro, el 0,8% a la Salud Pública y 0,6% a la ciencia e innovación.
Aunque las cifras resultan impactantes, más en un momento en el que el mercado turístico se encuentra prácticamente paralizado, es un hecho que la construcción de hoteles no se ha detenido en Cuba mientras los hospitales han sido incapaces de responder a la presión de la pandemia y la parada de la única planta productora de oxígeno del país provocó una cantidad de muertes aún sin determinar.
EL GRUPO INVERSOR ESPAÑOL IBEROSTAR INAUGURA NUEVO HOTEL 5 ESTRELLAS
El Grupo Iberostar anunció la inauguración el próximo 22 de diciembre del Coral Level at Iberostar Selection Esmeralda en Cayo Cruz, al norte de Camagüey, la primera instalación nueva que abre en la Isla después de las manifestaciones del 11J.
De acuerdo con un comunicado de la hotelera española, cuyos hoteles en la Isla están recibiendo poquísimos turistas desde el inicio de la pandemia en 2020, el Coral Level at Iberostar Selection Esmeralda, de cinco estrellas, pertenece al nuevo concepto Coral Level de Iberostar, con el que la empresa ofrece a sus clientes “una experiencia superior dentro de otro hotel”.
Según el sitio web de la nueva instalación, esta contará con suites de lujo, tres restaurantes con especialidades gourmet, mediterránea y criolla, respectivamente, así como una selección de rones y puros habanos en su exclusivo Cigar Bar.
Orientado sobre todo a empresarios y hombres de negocios, el hotel tiene una sala de conferencias, spa con jacuzzi, sauna y cabinas de masajes y cuenta además con el Day Pool Garden, aparte de la posibilidad de practicar el buceo en las cercanías.
Se trata del tercer Coral Level que Iberostar ubica en Cuba y el quinto que tiene en el mundo. Los ya existentes son el Coral Level at Iberostar Selection Holguín y el Coral Level at Iberostar Selection Ensenachos.
Cayo Cruz es un islote de 26km cuadrados perteneciente al archipiélago Jardines del Rey, en el municipio de Esmeralda, al norte de Camagüey, que está comenzando a ser explotado por el negocio turístico en Cuba.
Iberostar anunció el mes pasado que estaba “lista” para reabrir sus instalaciones cerradas en Cuba entre el 1 de noviembre próximo y enero de 2022.
La empresa, una de las compañías extranjeras mejor posicionadas en el sector turístico cubano, ha recibido visitantes desde inicios de año en sus hoteles de cuatro y cinco estrellas en La Habana, incluyendo el céntrico Parque Central, y en tres resorts de lujo de Varadero.
Ahora anuncia las reaperturas del hotel Grand Packard, en La Habana, dos en Varadero, uno en Cayo Ensenacho y otro en Cayo Guillermo, de la Cayería Norte de la Isla, y el resto en la ciudad espirituana de Trinidad y en Holguín, reportó EFE.

Despite the fact that there is a tough economic situation on the Island, worsened by the health crisis generated by the Covid-19 pandemic, the lack of medicines, food, and basic necessities, the construction of hotels has not stopped.
The state National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI) published in early September – when Cuba had been reporting the worst figures of the pandemic for at least two months and the health system was collapsed – that the island’s authorities had invested in the last semester 57 times more in Tourism than in Health.
Specifically, business services, real estate, and rental activities (a category that includes Tourism) concentrated 45.5% of the total investment of the State, compared to 3.1% dedicated to agriculture, 0.8% to Health Public, and 0.6% to science and innovation.
Although the figures are shocking, especially at a time when the tourism market is practically paralyzed, it is a fact that the construction of hotels has not stopped in Cuba while hospitals have been unable to respond to the pressure of the pandemic and the shutdown of the only oxygen-producing plant in the country caused a number of deaths yet to be determined.
THE SPANISH INVESTMENT GROUP IBEROSTAR INAUGURATES NEW 5 STAR HOTEL
The Iberostar Group announced the inauguration on December 22 of the Coral Level at Iberostar Selection Esmeralda in Cayo Cruz, north of Camagüey, the first new facility to open on the island after the 11J demonstrations.
According to a statement from the Spanish hotel company, whose hotels on the island have received very few tourists since the start of the pandemic in 2020, the five-star Coral Level at Iberostar Selection Esmeralda belongs to Iberostar’s new Coral Level concept, with the one that the company offers its clients “a superior experience within another hotel”.
According to the website of the new facility, it will have luxury suites, three restaurants with gourmet, Mediterranean, and Creole specialties, respectively, as well as a selection of Havana rums and cigars in its exclusive Cigar Bar.
Oriented mainly to entrepreneurs and businessmen, the hotel has a conference room, spa with Jacuzzi, sauna, and massage cabins and also has the Day Pool Garden, apart from the possibility of diving nearby.
It is the third Coral Level that Iberostar places in Cuba and the fifth it has in the world. The existing ones are the Coral Level at Iberostar Selection Holguín and the Coral Level at Iberostar Selection Ensenachos.
Cayo Cruz is a 26km-square islet belonging to the Jardines del Rey archipelago, in the municipality of Esmeralda, north of Camagüey, which is beginning to be exploited by the tourist business in Cuba.
Iberostar announced last month that it was “ready” to reopen its closed facilities in Cuba between November 1 and January 2022.
The company, one of the best positioned foreign companies in the Cuban tourism sector, has received visitors since the beginning of the year at its four and five-star hotels in Havana, including the central Central Park, and at three luxury resorts in Varadero.
Now it announces the reopening of the Grand Packard hotel, in Havana, two in Varadero, one in Cayo Ensenacho and another in Cayo Guillermo, in the North Cay of the island, and the rest in the city of Trinidad and Holguín in Espiritu, reported EFE.
