Playa Bibijagua se encuentra aproximadamente a 8 km al norte de Nueva Gerona, en la Isla de la Juventud (Isla de PInos). Esta playa de aguas poco profundas es la más cerca de Nueva Gerona y Chacón.
La afamada y hermosa playa Bibijagua, en la Isla de la Juventud, se diferencia de las otras existentes en la pequeña ínsula y en toda Cuba, por el color completamente negro de forma natural de parte de sus arenas, formadas por la acción erosiva de las olas sobre las rocas de mármol. Es realmente así, la tonalidad de sus arenas lo debe a la presencia de granos de minerales pesados, componentes que convierte a Bibijagua en una playa de gran singularidad en el mundo, cuya belleza y transparencia de sus aguas la hacen aún más encantadora.
El extremo derecho de la playa ofrece lugares encantadores con espacios solitarios. En el horizonte se puede distinguir a simple vista un grupo de cayos que protegen la playa del viento del norte llamado Cayería de los Inglesitos.

En Playa Bibijagua, algunos artistas cubanos realizaron 10 monumentos escultóricos de mármol con la técnica del tallado directo.
¿Por qué la Playa Bibijagua tiene arena negra?
El principal elemento que diferencia a esta playa de otras de Cuba es su arena. El color negro no es usual en las playas del Mar Caribe, así que la Playa Bibijagua logró labrarse un camino de fama aprovechando sus atributos naturales.
Otras playas de arenas negras del mundo tienen un origen volcánico, pero en el caso de la Isla de la Juventud esta no es la razón de semejante color. La arena de esta playa se formó por la acción erosiva de las olas sobre las rocas de mármol negro de la región. Tiene un grano muy fino y brillante que al mojarse se compacta por lo que en la zona más cercana al agua puedes caminar firme.
El resultado es un escenario natural maravilloso.
Durante siglos este ecosistema se mantuvo aislado y protegido. En el siglo XX la Playa Bibijagua comenzó a poblarse y se convirtió en una atracción para los residentes en la Isla (especialmente estadounidenses radicados allí) y sus visitantes de otros lares del mundo. Se construyeron moteles, casas de recreo, carreteras de acceso y una red de instalaciones para poder disfrutar del bello paisaje marino. Cn el tiempo estos oasis de la afamada isla se han ido apagando por la mala gestion gubernamental y el descuido de sus singulares espacios de turismo nacional.
En su extremo izquierdo y al final de la playa Bibijagua, en dirección a la sierra de Punta de Bibijagüa, llegamos a una inmensa caleta que tiene como fondo la impresionante montaña de mármol negro.
La acción humana en tiempos recientes
Actualmente el uso masivo de las playas, la mala gestión de los residuos sólidos en sus instalaciones y la baja cultura cívica de algunos bañistas comenzó a dejar un efecto negativo en la playa.
La Playa Bibijagua es un paisaje marino espectacular, rodeado de una vegetación densa, de palmares y de montañas.
Quienes más sufren su deterioro son los pineros, pues ven como este singular ecosistema pierde su esencia.
Con cada metro menos de playa, desaparece también una parte de la identidad de esta famosa y hermosa Isla.

Why does Bibijagua Beach have black sand?

At its left end and at the end of Bibijagua beach, in the direction of the Punta de Bibijagüa mountain range, we come to an immense cove with the impressive mountain of black marble as its background.

Currently, the massive use of the beaches, the poor management of solid waste in its facilities, and the low civic culture of some bathers began to have a negative effect on the beach.
Bibijagua Beach is a spectacular seascape, surrounded by dense vegetation, palm groves, and mountains.
Those who suffer the most from its deterioration are the pine trees, as they see how this unique ecosystem loses its essence.
With every meter less of the beach, a part of the identity of this famous and beautiful Island also disappears.
