Más de 20 vuelos chárter con carga humanitaria han llegado a Cuba desde el pasado junio, cuando el DOT concedió las primeras autorizaciones a Skyway para volar con paquetes de agencias de viaje, envíos personales y donativos. El gobierno de Estados Unidos extendió hasta el próximo año el plazo para los vuelos fletados desde Miami con carga humanitaria hacia Cuba y autorizó a la aerolínea Skyway Enterprises para volar directo a la ciudad de Cienfuegos.
Según la documentación del Departamento de Transporte de Estados Unidos (DOT), los 13 vuelos autorizados a la compañía Swift Air/iAero Airways para llevar ayuda a Santa Clara y Holguín podrán realizarse hasta el 28 de enero de 2022. La orden fue emitida el pasado 5 de noviembre.
La fecha límite otorgada a Swift Air para cumplir sus envíos humanitarios expiró el pasado 28 de octubre. La aerolínea argumentó que no pudo completar los vuelos en el tiempo estipulado por limitaciones en la flota de carga y la falta de un acuerdo para la distribución de la paquetería en las ciudades de destino.
En el caso de Skyway, el DOT validó la solicitud de la aerolínea para incluir a Cienfuegos entre las ciudades del interior de Cuba adonde pueden llegar hasta tres vuelos fletados por semana con ayuda humanitaria.
“Skyway ha encontrado que es muy difícil, si no imposible, transportar carga humanitaria desde La Habana a Cienfuegos mediante transporte terrestre. Buscamos que se nos autorice a operar directamente desde Miami a Cienfuegos para asegurar que la carga humanitaria llegue de forma segura y eficiente a los residentes en ese territorio”, señaló la petición de Skyway, que no reclamó ninguna frecuencia adicional a las previamente concedidas.
Skyway fue autorizada a realizar semanalmente desde Miami hasta cuatro vuelos fletados al aeropuerto de La Habana y tres vuelos, a discreción de la compañía, a las ciudades de Santiago de Cuba, Matanzas/Varadero, Holguín, Santa Clara y Camagüey. Inicialmente la fecha límite era el 30 de noviembre, pero DOT prolongó la autorización hasta el 31 de marzo de 2022.

ESTRATEGIA DE LA ADMINISTRATION NORTEAMERICANA
