Germán Piniella Vázquez de Mella, solo conocido como German Pinelli, nace en La Habana el 15 de diciembre de 1907 fue un Periodista y actor cubano. Para el pueblo a quién disfruto de sus presentaciones durante muchos anos es quien lo consagra y brinda su arte peculiar, vocación y talento, mencionandolo solo como PINELLI.
La voz de Pinelli se escuchó por primera vez en las ondas de radio cuando tenía 14 años y era alumno del prestigioso Colegio de Belén para chicos, regentado por los jesuitas. Los masones estaban recaudando fondos para su orfanato, La Misericordia, montando un espectáculo en el Teatro Campoamor, e invitaron al joven Pinelli a cantar.
El inicio de su vida artística coincidente con el surgimiento de la radio en Cuba, en 1922, lo convierte en un precursor del medio, en el que brilla por su preeminente trayectoria. Es la suya una voz quinceañera que surca el éter a través del primer control remoto musical, que se origina desde el teatro Campoamor en La Habana, el 28 de octubre de 1922, a través de la radioemisora PWX.

Sobre un acontecer de más de setenta años de radio y cuarenta de televisión, su estampa magra y simpática tiene una diáfana expresión para hacer del optimismo y gracia natural un instrumento de contacto y tuteos humanos.
CARRERA ARTISTICA
Treinta años después, su rostro sería el primero en aparecer en las pantallas de la televisión cubana. Pinelli estudió piano y guitarra y fue músico de la Orquesta Palau. Obtuvo una beca para estudiar bel canto en Italia, pero nunca recibió los fondos, por lo que se quedó en Cuba y estudió teatro con su hermana, Soledad. Cuando se acercó por primera vez a Goar Mestre, el director ejecutivo de los estudios de radio y televisión CMQ, en busca de trabajo, le dijeron que “no tenía voz para la radio”.
El punto de inflexión en la carrera periodística del joven Pinelli llegó con su atrevida cobertura en vivo de la pelea entre dos bandas rivales en la esquina de la calle Orfila. Allí, tendido en el suelo, informó del baño de sangre. Después de eso, se aseguró su lugar en el periodismo cubano. Este incidente inició su larga e ilustre carrera.
En 1925 surge como actor, intérprete característico de disímiles personajes. Habla e improvisa, toca el piano, canta con una voz de tenor muy linda, aunque ya para esa época canta tangos.
Canta en Cuban Telefhone, en el Hotel Palace de 25 y G, en el Vedado. Canta en la Metropolitana, en el Hotel Plaza y llega después a CMBN. Al respecto nos dice que allí actúa como cantante, locutor, animador, barrendero y como el que iba a buscar café a la esquina. Su primer gran sueldo en radio son cinco pesos al mes, cantando martes y jueves de 10 a 11 de la noche en una hora masónica.
En 1935 lo absorbe el periodismo. En CMQ la radioemisora más importante de la época es redactor y jefe de 4 noticieros.
La Corte Suprema del Arte, histórico espacio que se lanza a la búsqueda de talentos, encuentra en Germán Pinelli un promotor y animador.
En 1938 sus dotes provocan una demanda que cotizan bien la Cerveza Polar, la RCA Víctor, la Cerveza Cristal y la Fábrica de Cigarros Competidora Gaditana. En aquel mundo comercial brilla Pinelli con gran proceridad, por los valores genuinos para los empeños publicitarios. Verdadero artífice en un género tan complejo como la entrevista. Su magisterio se evoca por la autenticidad.
El primer programa que hace la televisión de preguntas y respuestas lo anima Germán. Su nombre: ‘Cristal, risas y dinero’, patrocinado por la cerveza Cristal.
Se hizo conocido por su ingenio y capacidad para mantener cautiva a una audiencia. Durante su vida, recibió muchos honores tanto de la comunidad cultural como del gobierno. En “San Nicolás del Peladero” Era el alma del programa. Sin pretenderlo ya hacía programas humorísticos con cultura y un sedimento magistral de todo lo que significaba poder plantarse ante una cámara y convencerla de principio a fin”.
Dueño absoluto de una sólida cultura, matizada por el conocimiento de varios idiomas, su forma de comunicar y sus cualidades pedagógicas, que lo convierten en alguien capaz de hablar el lenguaje de los más humildes y el de las personas más ilustradas. German Pinelli paso por la vida como una de las figuras más queridas de la cultura nacional, fue un artista total.
En los últimos 8 años de su existencia llegaba con frecuencia a su casa y allí pasaba horas participando de agradables charlas sobre los más variados temas pasados y de actualidad.
Murió el 19 de Noviembre de 1996 en la Havana. Está enterrado en el cementerio de Colón, La Habana, Cuba.
VIDA PERSONAL
Estuvo casado tres veces. Su hermana fue la actriz cubana Sol Pinelli y su hijo es Tony Pinelli, el galardonado compositor, cantante y erudito musical cubano. Los hijos de Tony son el alemán David Pinelli (nacido el 24 de septiembre de 1973) y Ari A. Pinelli (nacido el 9 de junio de 1976), quienes junto con la esposa de German David, Ana Paez (nacida el 9 de enero de 1966) son miembros del grupo musical cubano Los Tres de la Habana. También tuvo a Alina Pinelli, la menor de sus hijos, de su matrimonio con la modelo y socialité, Concepción Nanin. Alina a los 5 años formó parte del Cuerpo de Niños de Ballet del Ballet Nacional de Cuba, bajo la dirección de Alicia Alonso. Salió de Cuba con su madre en 1960. Aunque ha actuado, eligió la carrera tanto de Derecho como de Docente de Historia del Arte. En 2007, hizo votos y se convirtió en Pujari de la Sociedad Internacional para la Conciencia de Krishna (Hare Krishna).

Germán Piniella Vázquez de Mella, only known as German Pinelli, was born in Havana on December 15, 1907, he was a Cuban journalist and actor. For the people to whom I enjoy his presentations for many years, it is who consecrates him and offers his peculiar art, vocation, and talent, mentioning him only as PINELLI.
Pinelli’s voice was heard for the first time on the radio waves when he was 14 years old and he was a student at the prestigious Colegio de Belén for boys, run by the Jesuits. The Masons were raising funds for his orphanage, La Misericordia, putting on a show at the Campoamor Theater, and invited the young Pinelli to sing.
The beginning of his artistic life, coinciding with the emergence of radio in Cuba, in 1922, makes him a precursor of the medium, in which he shines for his pre-eminent career. His is a fifteen-year-old voice that crosses the ether through the first musical remote control, which originates from the Campoamor theater in Havana, on October 28, 1922, through the PWX radio station.

ARTISTIC CAREER
Thirty years later, his face would be the first to appear on Cuban television screens. Pinelli studied piano and guitar and was a musician with the Palau Orchestra. He obtained a scholarship to study bel canto in Italy but never received the funds, so he stayed in Cuba and studied theater with his sister, Soledad. When he first approached Goar Mestre, the executive director of CMQ radio and television studios, looking for work, he was told that he “had no voice for radio.”
The turning point in the young Pinelli’s journalistic career came with his daring live coverage of the fight between two rival gangs on the corner of Orfila Street. There, lying on the ground, he reported the bloodbath. After that, he secured his place in Cuban journalism. This incident started his long and illustrious career.
In 1925 he emerged as an actor, a characteristic interpreter of dissimilar characters. He talks and improvises, plays the piano, sings with a very nice tenor voice, although by that time he sings tangos.
He sings at Cuban Telefhone, at the Hotel Palace de 25 y G, in Vedado. He sings at the Metropolitana, at the Plaza Hotel, and later arrives at CMBN. His magisterium is evoked by authenticity.
The first question-and-answer program on television is animated by Germán. His name: ‘Cristal, laughter, and money, sponsored by Cristal beer.
He became known for his wit and ability to hold an audience captive. During his life, he received many honors from both the cultural community and the government. In “San Nicolás del Peladero” he was the soul of the program. Without intending to, he was already doing humorous programs with culture and masterful sediment of everything that is meant to be able to stand before a camera and convince it from beginning to end ”.
He is the absolute owner of a solid culture, nuanced by the knowledge of several languages, his way of communicating, and his pedagogical qualities, which make him someone capable of speaking the language of the most humble and the most enlightened people. German Pinelli went through life as one of the most beloved figures in the national culture, he was a total artist.

He died on November 19, 1996, in Havana. He is buried in the Colón Cemetery, Havana, Cuba.
PERSONAL LIFE
He was married three times. His sister was Cuban actress Sol Pinelli and his son is Tony Pinelli, the award-winning Cuban composer, singer, and musical scholar. Tony’s children are German David Pinelli (born September 24, 1973) and Ari A. Pinelli (born June 9, 1976), who together with German David’s wife, Ana Paez (born January 9, 1976) 1966) are members of the Cuban musical group Los Tres de la Habana. He also had Alina Pinelli, the youngest of his children, from his marriage to the model and socialite, Concepción Nanin. Alina at age 5 was part of the Ballet Children’s Corps of the National Ballet of Cuba, under the direction of Alicia Alonso. She left Cuba with her mother in 1960. Although she has acted, she chose a career as both Law and Art History Teacher. In 2007, she took vows and became a Pujari of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Hare Krishna).
