LOS RUSOS SIGUEN SIENDO la locomotora del turismo en Cuba, que en lo que va de año ha perdido casi el 75% de visitantes respecto al año anterior, muy malo ya. Sin embargo, las tornas podrían cambiar si los viajeros del gigante euroasiático empiezan a consolidarse como gran público en República Dominicana, una tendencia que en septiembre dio un fuerte salto cualitativo.

Solo el turismo ruso mejoró, pese a todo, al pasar de 63.562 viajeros en 2020 a 121.949 este año.

En el resto de datos hay pocas sorpresas. Llegaron apenas 21.493 cubanos residentes en el exterior, frente a los 107.301 del pasado año. La mayoría de ellos residen en EE UU y las restricciones de vuelos entre los dos países por la pandemia se han notado. Lo mismo ocurre con Canadá, que siempre había sido el mayor emisor de turistas a la Isla pero vuelve a estrellarse, pasando de los 404.921 de 2020 a solo 14.618 en este 2021.

Por último, España, Alemania e Italia caen también, en el caso de la primera un significativo 30%. 2020 fue un mal año para una de las principales fuentes de ingresos para el Estado cubano, con una bajada del 76,4% de viajeros extranjeros respecto al año anterior. Sin embargo, los tres primeros meses del año, antes de que se produjera el cierre de fronteras, permitieron mantener una cierta resistencia. En los años anteriores, el país había registrado datos récord: 4,2 millones en 2019 y 4,7 millones en 2018.

En cambio, este 2021 promete datos aún más catastróficos, ya que hasta octubre solo habían llegado 203.806 turistas a la Isla y parece inalcanzable lograr en dos meses los más de 700.000 viajeros que harían falta para llegar al mal dato del año anterior.
