En la víspera de los festejos navideños, tres jóvenes promesas del béisbol, Rafael Sánchez, Raico Quiñones y Brayan San Juan abandonaron la Isla. Los peloteros ya se encuentran en República Dominicana, la ruta de escape de los últimos años que se ha convertido en un trampolín para los atletas que buscan ser contratados por algún equipo de las Grandes Ligas de EE UU.
“Desde que terminaron las restricciones de vuelos, a partir del 15 de noviembre, la emigración de peloteros cubanos ha continuado sus patrones normales”, publicó el portal Béisbol FR!
Sánchez, originario de Holguín, formó parte del equipo Cuba en el Mundial Sub-18 que participó en Canadá 2017. El lanzador posee “una recta superior a las 90 millas y estuvo entre los 34 jugadores liberados por la Federación Cubana en los tiempos del acuerdo entre Cuba y la MLB”, destacó el periodista Francys Romero. En cuatro Series Nacionales “promedió 5.12 de efectividad con récord de 8-8 en 103.2 innings”.
Raico Quiñones fue integrante del equipo de Cuba en el Panamericano Sub-15 que se celebró en México en 2019. Nacido en Matanzas, el atleta fue bloqueado para salir de la Isla por la vía legal, por lo que sus padres tuvieron que solicitar la baja del joven de la Escuela de Iniciación Deportiva Escolar.

Brayan San Juan, subrayó Romero, “es otro talentoso lanzador de Matanzas con solo 16 años. Se ha acercado a las 90 millas y posee bastante desarrollo en los pitcheos secundarios. El derecho también estuvo en el Panamericano Sub-15 de México en 2019 junto a Quiñones”.
Sánchez, Quiñones y San Juan se unen a Leyan Corvo, Christian Sáez, Rafael Álvarez y Cristian de Jesús López, quienes eligieron a Dominicana para seguir un proceso de preparación y buscar ser reclutados por algún equipo en las Grandes Ligas de EE UU o alguna novena de Canadá. Este tipo de acciones, señaló Swing Completo, se deben al “sinfín de limitaciones que tiene el béisbol cubano”.
El pasado 16 de noviembre, Darlin Jiménez y Gustavo Urgellés salieron de Cuba. Días después se informó que ya formaban parte del grupo de peloteros representados por el habanero Carlos Pérez que está afincado en EE UU. A los deportistas se les buscó un gimnasio y un campo para que no perdieran ritmo.
El abandono de Sánchez, Quiñones y San Juan se dio justo un día antes de la publicación de Granma en que se señala que en el 2022 el béisbol “no tendrá un certamen internacional de envergadura”. En la misma publicación se indica que será un año de preparación para el Clásico Mundial, los Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe, los Juegos Panamericanos y el evento conocido como Premier 12, todos en 2023.
