De prisa y sin pausa Cuba se queda sin peloteros: parte un veloz y poderoso prospecto santiaguero. Y se eleva a 18 el número de peloteros cubanos que han firmado contratos en el actual período de firmas internacionales.

Otro prospecto del béisbol habría salido de Cuba en las últimas horas, según informa en su blog el periodista Francys Romero. Se trata del santiaguero José Abilio Ferrer Cintra, cuya partida confirma que el régimen cubano no solo se está quedando sin militantes para la Unión de Jóvenes Comunistas (UJC), también se está quedando sin peloteros.
Aunque hasta el momento se ignora su ubicación exacta, Romero vaticina que el prospecto de 22 años buscará firmar con una organización de Grandes Ligas.
Ferrer cuenta con cualidades importantes para hacer realidad sus aspiraciones de jugar en el mejor béisbol del mundo. Romero lo describe como un “talento con extrema velocidad”, que registra 6.0 y 6.1 segundos en las 60 yardas. A esto se suma que es un bateador de poder y de contacto, que además posee un excelente brazo. El periodista califica de “notables” sus calidades atléticas y defensivas, lo que lo convierte en un potencial cinco herramientas, que se puede desempeñarse como jardinero y como receptor.
Ferrer había debutado Series Nacionales, durante la edición 58. Antes había integrado el equipo Cuba que intervino en el Panamericano Sub-18 en Panamá, en 2018. Su ubicación en el line-up como tercer bate da idea de su capacidad de conectar.
También participó en el tope entre Cuba y Japón de la categoría. Se perdió toda la campaña en la Serie Nacional 59 porque tuvo que cumplir el Servicio Militar Obligatorio.
Retornó durante la Serie Nacional número 60, pero apenas acumuló 17 turnos al bate en solo ocho partidos. A finales de 2021, solicitó, por motivos personales, la baja del béisbol cubano, que le fue otorgada oficialmente el 20 de diciembre.
Ferrer es el segundo prospecto del béisbol cubano que abandona la Isla en marzo y el séptimo del año, sin contar las salidas de otros peloteros menos prometedores o de más edad, que se han ido del país con contratos gestionados por su cuenta, incluso horas antes del inicio de la actual Serie Nacional número 61.

Another baseball prospect would have left Cuba in the last few hours, according to journalist Francys Romero’s blog. This is José Abilio Ferrer Cintra from Santiago, whose departure confirms that the Cuban regime is not only running out of militants for the Union of Young Communists (UJC), it is also running out of baseball players.
Although his exact location is unknown at this time, Romero predicts that the 22-year-old prospect will seek to sign with a major league organization.
Ferrer has important qualities to make his aspirations of playing in the best baseball in the world come true. Ferrer is the second Cuban baseball prospect to leave the island in March and the seventh of the year, not counting the departures of other less promising or older players, who have left the country with contracts managed on their own, even hours before the beginning of the current National Series number 61.
