LOS FALSOS HABANOS QUE CIRCULAN POR EL MUNDO…

“El país del tabaco” compró clandestinamente selecciones de hojas en Nicaragua y pequeñas cantidades a Ecuador, países donde se sabe que las plantaciones tabacaleras pasan por un estricto control de calidad con estándares internacionales. Las hojas casi contrabandeadas se usaron para manufacturar el tabaco que se vendió, y el que se regaló a mandatarios influyentes. Increíble que “El mejor habano del mundo” haya sido sin denominación de origen. En Santo Domingo se falsifica tabaco cubano de marcas reconocidas, sobre todo para el mercado norteamericano ávido de un habano cubano. Algunos medios internacionales afirman que casi “siete millones de puros falsos de Cuba circulan por el mundo”.

Por tanto el habano o tabaco como lo llamamos los cubanos era un consumo muy popular, que iba en un espectro tan amplio como del campesino más pobre hasta el millonario. Se ha quedado como símbolo de la más auténtica cubanía llevar en el bolsillo superior izquierdo de la guayabera un tabaco, dos, y hasta tres.

Por tanto el hábito de fumar ha sido algo que el pueblo cubano, tradicional y eminentemente fumador, hacía a sus anchas. Como la conocida canción: “Fumar es un placer, genial, sensual…” El pueblo cubano es un pueblo eminentemente fumador. Pero al margen de ese tango, Eliseo Grenet nos regaló el tema hermoso que es “Tabaco Verde”, de la que se han hecho varias versiones, pero ninguna como la de Ramón Veloz. También se graba “Se te cayó el tabaco”, por Beny Moré y su orquesta y la orquesta América registra el Cha cha chá del Tabaquero, pero no se por qué no ha habido mayor producción musical cubana referida al tema del tabaco.

Por supuesto que mundialmente también todo el mundo fumaba, en las películas hombres y mujeres, ya fuera en una oficina, en un restaurante, en un evento deportivo o en la guerra, todos fumaban. Hasta los cantantes fumaban a la vez que cantaban, el ejemplo más famoso fue Frank Sinatra que cantaba, con esa voz que nunca perdió, y tomaba whiskey mientras cantaba.
