Rosendo Rosell fue una destacada personalidad del mundo del espectáculo, actuando en la radio, la televisión y el cine. Tuvo participación en estos medios en Cuba primero y luego en Estados Unidos. Llegó a ser una de las figuras artísticas más populares en cabarets, radio y televisión en Cuba.

Pero Rosell no sólo fue un devoto humorista, sino que en su dilatada vida trabajó en varios frentes culturales, y en todos se distinguió por poner en alto el nombre de la tierra que lo vio nacer para orgullo de sus paisanos.

Cantante en sus inicios, compositor de más de cien temas que han grabado grandes intérpretes del mundo, conductor, locutor, locutor deportivo, escritor, periodista, escritor de sus propios programas y discos, productor de espectáculos, investigador, escritor, historiador, actor de radio, teatro, cabaret, televisión y cine de Cuba y México.

Radicado en La Habana, matrícula Derecho en la Universidad de La Habana, mientras estudiaba, labora en una refinería de Arroyo Naranjo y en el departamento de expedición de la tienda El Encanto, al mismo tiempo actuaba en los teatros de barrios.

Rosendo Rosell nace el 25 de junio de 1918 en Placetas, en la antigua provincia de Las Villas, actual Villa Clara, radicándose portseriormente en Santa María del Mar en La Habana. Durante la infancia fue apartador de tabaco, lector de escogida y cantaba tangos en las serenatas pueblerinas, antes de sumarse al jazz band de Polo Madrigal en Sancti Spiritus

El 25 de junio de 1946 contrae matrimoinio con Martha Joffre, la boda se hace realidad en la Iglesia del Angel de La Habana Vieja, de esta unión matrimonial nace su hija Martica.

CARRERA ARTISTICA

En la televisión Rosendo Rosell debutó en 1950 junto a Olga Guillot y Tongolele en el programa Con Garrido y Piñero, en unión también de Ada Béjar, espacio dirigido por Manolo Alonso en Canal 4 de la televisión cubana.

En 1951 Rosendo Rosell se presenta ocasionalmente con la Orquesta Havana Cubans Boys en la televisión, llegando a tener la propia orquesta. Entre las composiciones más conocidas, se citan, Calculadora, Caimito y marañon, Cobarde, Repitalo, Cuba, Cubita, Cubera, Muchachita de Bar, Figulina, Cada quien, Las parrandas de Placetas, Por el Rhin, Lindo Paris, Callecitas de mi Habana, No desentones criollo, Me da la gana.

Estas canciones han sido incorporadas al repertorio de diferentes agrupaciones y cantantes, como la Orquesta Aragón, Celia Cruz, la Orquesta de Machito, Rolando Laserie, Cachao, Ñico Membiela, el Conjunto Roberto Faz, Fernando Albuerne y Oscar D’ León.

En 1953 Rosendo Rosell trabajó en el cabaret Montmatre al lado de Rita Montaner y fue imagen de las cervezas Hatuey, Cristal y Polar. En 1960 se radica en Miami, La Florida, Estados Unidos, donde continúa junto a la esposa Marta y la hija Martica. Es autor además de canciones como Cuando los hijos se van, así como del libro Pequeña Biografía de un Gran Pueblo, dedicado a Placetas.

Rosendo Rosell también es autor de unos 20 discos de chistes de buen humor, así como celador del mundo artístico y cultural cubano.

Rosendo Rosell realizó varias temporadas de teatrales en los teatros, Martí, Campoamor y el Principal de la Comedia. La capacidad para improvisar y aglutinar los mejores artistas en las propias producciones lo convirtieron en figura imprescindible en los años siguientes.

SU ACTUACION FILMOGRAFICA…

En 1950 Rosendo Rosell debuta en la película Siete muertes a plazo fijo, considerada por él como el mejor esfuerzo cinematográfico cubano de la época. En 1954 interviene en los filmes Los Paquetes de Paquita o Los Enredos de un Cubano.

En 1968 Rosendo Rosell participa en el palícula mexicana, Me casé con un cura, obra dirigida por Fernando Cortés, actuando junto a Miguel Ángel Álvarez, José de San Antón, Lucho Gatica y Maura Monti entre otros.

Rosendo Rosell es considerado el más polivalente de los talentos artísticos cubanos, por lo que tiene posibilidades de ser muy aclamado en Cuba, y por lo que en 1954 fue nombrado “Rey Momo” por el Carnaval de La Habana, algo que lo llenó de satisfacción. En el exilio el 17 de julio de 1988 fue nombrado “Rosendo Rosell Day Miami” y el 19 de noviembre de 1989 fue homenajeado como “Hijo Distinguido de Placetas” por el municipio en el exilio.

El 18 de abril de 2008, en su honor se entregó la beca “Beca Rosendo Rosell” en el Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus, College y auspiciada por la Municipalidad de Placetas en el Exilio.

Sabemos que Cuba tuvo y tiene muy buenos artistas, pero a la vez puede abarcar tantas facetas tan bien complementadas que es imposible señalar cuál sería el mejor interpretado, solo hay uno: Rosendo Rosell.

Hombre extraordinario y sencillo a la vez, ha engrandecido a Cuba y los cubanos con amplia y digna trayectoria, con su muerte la farándula cubana perdió a uno de sus más completos artista. El famoso actor, animador, compositor, productor y periodista falleció en la ciudad de Hialeah el 24 de octubre de 2010. Tenía entonces 92 años.
